Marvel Legends MTG Crossover Confirmed Via Exclusive Action Figure Promo

Share
Looks like the rumors are true!

Back in June, Marvel experienced a huge content leak, inadvertently revealing details of many upcoming action figures. While something like this wouldn’t typically be news for MTG fans, some of these figures featured the prefix ‘Magic: The Gathering,’ implying some kind of crossover. While the leaks seemed sketchy at the time, it turns out they were 100% accurate. Based on early photos of the event, it looks like the Marvel Legends x MTG collaboration is being officially unveiled at this weekend’s Comic-Con in San Diego.

So far, all we’ve seen of the collab is one figure, but it’s still very exciting stuff. Magic branching out into more experimental partnerships could lead to great things down the road. On top of that, these new figures will also come with exclusive MTG cards. Depending on the specifics of these cards, this initiative could present a major shake-up for the secondary market.

The first Marvel Legends x MTG action figure we’ve seen from the range is the Agent Anti-Venom above. The figure was photographed in a cabinet at Comic-Con alongside other Spider-Man products, including Collector Booster Boxes for the upcoming set. Players won’t be able to purchase Spider-Man product this early, so it’s likely that this figure is just for display purposes for now.

The big sell here, of course, is the exclusive Magic card included in the box. The packaging, sadly, gives very little away. It notes that an ‘Exclusive Collectible Card’ is included, but other than that, nothing. We can’t even see what the card is, since it’s facing inwards in the box.

There are plenty of possibilities here. Chances are, the cards included with these figures will all be Spider-Man related somehow, likely cards from the main set. What’s really interesting is how that ‘Exclusive’ element will come into play. It probably doesn’t mean ‘mechanically unique,’ though there’s certainly precedent for that with the Marvel Secret Lairs. As several players pointed out on Reddit, it’s more likely referring to exclusive artwork for a card with a regular printing.

Even if that is the case, these promos could still be worth a lot of money. Products like this will have heavy demand from two separate fandoms, after all. It’s also quite likely that promos packaged this way get damaged in transit, which could make mint-condition copies hard to come by. This is, unfortunately, great news for scalpers, but it may not be a major issue depending on which cards Wizards opts to include here.
