Last-Minute Edge Of Eternities Leaks Include Land-Eating Monstrosity

One last starter before the main course!

Edge of Eternities has really gotten the short end of the stick in terms of recent Magic: The Gathering leaks. While Aetherdrift, Tarkir: Dragonstorm, and even Final Fantasy got off mostly leak-free, we keep seeing more and more unofficial spoilers for this set day after day. Even now, mere hours away from the official debut, they just keep on coming. The silver lining is that some of these last-minute Edge of Eternities leaks are absolute bangers.

There are some really interesting new designs in this batch, including a fresh spin on an old mechanic and some very promising new legendary creatures. There’s even more Spacecraft support to go along with the leaks we covered yesterday. If these leaks are anything to go by, Edge of Eternities is shaping out to be a very exciting set indeed.

Monsters From The Void

Green Red Cards

Green definitely got the lion’s share of the goods in today’s last-minute Edge of Eternities leaks. Famished Worldsire is the only mythic in the batch, and it’s a doozy. It brings back the Devour mechanic, which we haven’t seen in Standard since Alara Reborn, and gives it a new land-based twist.

Sacrificing your own lands is obviously a major downside, but as long as roughly a third of your deck is lands, you should be able to replace them all, leaving you a chunky creature with a Ward 3 shield. The huge mana cost here means it’s likely confined to lands-matter Commander decks, but it’ll excel in those.

Frenzied Baloth is even better. This is likely a new contender for the ‘most pushed two drop of all time’ crown, offering a well-statted Hasty Trampler that also turns off opposing countermagic and damage prevention. This is obviously a great addition to any aggressive green deck, but it could have applications well beyond that. The anti-counter clause makes this a green Grand Abolisher in a way. Abolisher is a cEDH staple, so I could see Baloth gaining similar renown in time.

Pain for All isn’t a green card, but it certainly plays well with them. It mitigates some of the downside of Auras by giving you a burn spell on entry, then turns the enchanted creature into a pseudo-Screaming Nemesis. This pairs nicely with all the same cards as Nemesis, including yesterday’s insane new Spacecraft and Self-Destruct. That three mana cost likely prices it out of Standard play, but it’s a nice combo piece for Commander. The ‘each opponent’ clause makes it particularly juicy in that format.

Legends And Landers

Legendary Creatures

Today’s leaks also include a number of new legendary creatures. Syr Vondam is a surprisingly good Aristocrats piece, scaling up quickly and taking any nonland permanent with it on death. With Sephiroth in Standard now, this could easily see testing. In Commander, it’ll be great in both the command zone and the 99 for Orzhov Aristocrats.

Dyadrine, Synthesis Amalgam is an interesting mix of +1+1 counters matter, token generation, and card draw. In Standard, it’ll almost certainly be too slow. In Commander, however, it’s another of those ‘do everything’ Commanders. There are a ton of ways to build this, and however you do it you should end up with a serviceable deck.

Xu-Ifit is a really interesting take on a reanimation effect. Normally, you reanimate to access powerful abilities, but Xu-Ifit gets rid of those. This means it’s better in a deck full of well-statted creatures instead. Perhaps Aetherdrift’s vanilla legends will finally see some use with this one?

Last Minute Edge of Eternities Leaks Spacecraft Cards

We also saw some crucial Spacecraft support today. Loading Zone lets you Station at double speed, which should help get those mythic rare lands online. It can also come down for just one on the turn you want to Station, so there’s potential here.

Synthesizer Labship is a multi-tiered Spacecraft, and finally one with an affordable Station cost. It looks fairly niche overall, but it’s very easy to get that first tier online and start animating artifacts, so I wouldn’t count it out.

Secluded Starforge is really only Spacecraft-adjacent, but it does help out the archetype a lot. That first ability lets your artifacts Station, and the second gives you Robots to do the same. All of that on an untapped land is pretty solid, so expect this one to see some testing at least.

Best Of The Rest

Last Minute Edge of Eternities Leaks Black Cards

We got a number of new black cards today, including bizarre board wipe Zero Point Ballad. This works similarly to a -X/-X effect, without the benefit of getting around Indestructible. You do get to potentially reanimate a creature, though, so swings and roundabouts.

Sunset Saboteur is a really interesting new Aggro option. Four power on a two drop is great for Station, and great for smashing face. Buffing your opponent’s creatures is unfortunate, but the stats and excellent Ward ability here will likely make up for it.

Chorale of the Void is repeatable reanimation from your opponent’s graveyard, but at a heavy cost. You need to attach it to a creature and have that creature swing in each turn, and you need to trigger Void each turn too. While it’s interesting, this looks too specific and restrictive to actually be useful.

Last Minute Edge of Eternities Leaks Blue White Cards

Finally, we have some blue/white cards that don’t really fit anywhere else. Beyond the Quiet is the new post-rotation Sunfall, so Control players can breathe easy. Hitting Spacecraft is much worse than Incubating, but I expect this’ll see plenty of play regardless.

Space-Time Anomaly is great with Hope Estheim in Commander, but beyond that, it’s a bit of a question mark. In constructed formats, it seems mediocre at best, though it’s worth noting that any infinite life combos can instantly win with this card.

Starwinder seems like a poor man’s Enduring Curiosity. The Dimir decks that run Curiosity tend to play low-power creatures anyway, so Starwinder’s upside doesn’t make up for only sticking around for one turn. The Leviathan typing may land this a home in Commander, but otherwise, it seems very mediocre.
