Wizards Teases Mysterious "Land Of 1000 Lands" MTG Reprint

Is that a rainbow land on the horizon?

After more than a month of waiting and two weeks of cryptic teases, the Secret Lair Countdown Kit: Encyclopedia finally drops today. So far, it’s looking just as promising as the original, with several high-value reprints confirmed already. That said, there’s still a lot we don’t know, and Wizards is leaning fully into that today. In a new promotional email, it has teased a new MTG reprint under the name “Land of 1000 Lands.”

What Is The “Land Of 1000 Lands” In MTG?

Land of 1000 Lands MTG

Currently, Land Of 1000 Lands isn’t the name of an actual MTG card as of yet, and it’s very unlikely Wizards will be putting mechanically-unique cards in this drop. For these reasons, we can assume that this is just flavor text on a reprint. Many are leaning towards this being a reprint of City of Brass, based on the artwork. It’s highly reminiscent of several pieces of past artwork used on the card, so this makes a lot of sense.

City of Brass would be a great reprint to include here. It’s a $15 card on the low end, and a staple in a ton of high-level Commander decks. A fancy new version like this could easily add $20-30 of value to the drop, which is already sitting at around $92 thanks to the now-confirmed Urza’s Saga and Phyrexian Altar reprints. Given that the drop will cost $200 to buy, having $120 of that be covered by three of the 26 cards is a phenomenal start.

The “Land of 1000 Lands” text could also be taken as a reference to copying lands, which some have extrapolated into a reprint of Vesuva or Thespian’s Stage. The latter seems unlikely based on the art, but the former makes a lot of sense. Vesuva isn’t nearly as exciting a reprint as City of Brass financially, with copies going for less than $2 right now. It’s still very much playable in Commander, however, and does especially well at more casual tables.

In any case, we’ll find out what this mysterious land is soon enough. The full Secret Lair Countdown Kit: Encyclopedia will be dropping later today, at 9 AM PT.
