Players love Commander. As a whole, EDH is by far the most popular MTG format. Many people also love playing token strategies in Commander, as well as unique typal decks.
Recently, a cool Commander card that fits well into both of these styles of decks saw a pretty significant price spike. This card is strong on its own but also has some potent synergies with a variety of legends and newly printed creatures. If you’re a fan of Rabbits, this creature does everything you want.
Jacked Rabbit
We are, of course, talking about Jacked Rabbit. Jacked Rabbit was printed in one of the Bloomburrow Commander Precons, and has become an immediate powerhouse for a multitude of different Commander decks. The card is even strong enough to warrant inclusion in Vintage Cube on Magic Online!
With regards to Bloomburrow legends, both Baylen, the Haymaker and Finneas, Ace Archer pair nicely with Jacked Rabbit. Jacked Rabbit can easily flood the board with tokens every time it attacks, so long as you invested mana into it. Any other ways to modify Jacked Rabbit’s power, such as with equipment, make the creature even stronger.
These are far from the only legends printed in the last year that welcome Jacked Rabbit’s presence. Arabella, Abandoned Doll works well alongside all the 1/1s you can generate, as does Black Panther, Wakandan King.
It should also be noted that Rabbits have only grown more popular since the printing of Hare Apparent in MTG Foundations. Despite being a common, this creature is valued at nearly $4 according to TCGPlayer market price due to its high demand.
While it’s not entirely clear why Jacked Rabbit has seen such a massive increase in price over the last week, the fact that so many different EDH decks want it, including those built around Hare Apparent, definitely contributes.
The Spike
Interestingly, this is not the first time Jacked Rabbit has spiked. Back in August, the creature saw an increase from $1.20 to $4.80. Between August and early December, Jacked Rabbit rose a little bit in price, but nothing drastic.
As you can see from the TCGPlayer market price history graph shown above, Jacked Rabbit saw its most significant recent jump over the last seven days. Of course, based solely on market price, even this leap from $7 to just over $10 isn’t huge. However, this doesn’t tell the full story.
Currently, the cheapest sale listing on TCGPlayer is over $17, which is more than triple what Jacked Rabbit cost a month ago. At the time of writing, three sales have been made today for traditional, near mint copies of Jacked Rabbit. All three fall between $17 and $20.
What’s really intriguing, though, is that there is still a way for players to get their hands on copies of Jacked Rabbit in good condition for a much better price. See, the extended art variant of Jacked Rabbit has not seen even close to the same level of price inflation.
Right now, there are a multitude of sellers listing Jacked Rabbit at under $9. Recent sales of the card, even in near mint condition, all reflect a similar price point.
So, even though the extended art version has seen a bit of a spike, it’s negligible compared to that of the traditional variant. It’ll be interesting to see if this trend continues, but for now, extended art fans have nothing to worry about.
