Innistrad Remastered Previews Kick Off Next Week

Don't worry folks, the spoiler drought is nearly over!

The past few weeks have been the rarest of things: a slow period in the world of MTG news. After the seemingly never-ending spoiler season that was 2024, many players are now itching for something new to sate their cardboard appetites. Thankfully, they won’t have to itch for long. It turns out previews for Magic’s next set, Innistrad Remastered, are less than a week away. What better way to ring in the new year than with some spooky treasures from the past?

Innistrad Remastered Previews Coming Soon!

Innistrad Remastered Previews Early Spoilers

While you’ll struggle to find this information in any of Wizards’ recent articles, it was confirmed in the final Weekly MTG episode of 2024. During the ‘Endstep’ section of the video, Blake Rasmussen said “We’ll be back January 7th, when we’ll be talking Innistrad Remastered previews.”

This tracks perfectly with how most preview seasons have worked in the past. Typically things kick off on a Tuesday and then go on for a week or two, leaving a lull before Prerelease can begin. While Innistrad Remastered won’t have a Prerelease in the traditional sense, it will have the eerily similar ‘Premium Preview Event.’ This will let players Draft with the new set ahead of its full release on January 24th. Unlike Prerelease these Premium Preview events will run across a full week, from the 17th to 23rd of January.

Based on this, preview season for the set will run for, at the very most, 10 days. Given the way things usually work, we’ll likely see the full set previewed by Friday, January 10th. This gives players a week to discuss it before the Preview events kick off the following Friday. As of right now, we’ve only seen 30 cards from the set. Based on Remastered sets past, we can expect something in the 260-290 range for the total size. This gives Wizards four days to preview around 250 cards.

This sounds ridiculous at first, but bear in mind all of Foundations Jumpstart was dumped in a single day, so there’s definite precedent. Innistrad Remastered is all reprints too, and is therefore much easier to offload en masse. However it pans out, I for one am excited to delve back into Magic’s gothic slaughterhouse. If only for those sweet, sweet Retro Frames.
