Wizards of the Coast has announced that starting on Innistrad: Midnight Hunt this fall, Prerelease events for new Magic: The Gathering sets will have Set Boosters as prize support instead of Draft Boosters. The change was announced in the Wizards Play Network website, revealing other changes coming with the arrival of the fall expansion.
Set Boosters are designed for players who are not interesting in drafting cards. Each Set Booster pack comes with fourteen objects, twelve of which are MTG playing cards. The other pieces are an Art card and a Marketing card/Token. Having Set Boosters as a prize support for Prerelease events should help motivate players to attend more.

Other highlights from the announcement includes:
– All WPN stores will receive about 25% more Buy-a-Box promos than their Prerelease Early Sales Promotion allocation.
– Stores that Reach WPN Premium in July will receive an exclusive digital Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Preview card, not previewed anywhere else
– There will be no Commander dueling at Prerelease because Innistrad: Midnight Hunt has fewer Commander Decks than other recent sets
– Vague mention of the season’s Commander Nights with more info coming soon.

Innistrad: Midnight Hunt is scheduled to release for tabletop on September 24, and Innistrad: Crimson Vow will be released on November 19. Expect them to be released a week earlier digitally on MTG Arena and Magic Online. Before we get to enjoy those sets, Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms will be released on July 23, 2021.
