MTG Aetherdrift Synergies Cause Zombie Spirit to Spike 693%

Share

One of the most common themes that players enjoy crafting MTG Commander decks around is typal. Whether you’re playing Elves or Zombies, there are tons of cards that reward you for sticking to one particular creature type and working to maximize it.

Speaking of Zombies, since the release of the Aetherdrift preconstructed Commander decks, Zombie typal has become exceptionally popular. Both Hashaton, Scarab’s Fist and Temmet, Naktamun’s Will make for elite generals to lead a Zombie army.

As such, over the last month, we’ve seen multiple Zombies like Hordewing Skaab spike in price that weren’t in the Precon. Today, we have another creature to share that has spiked in price considerably. This Zombie is the ultimate card advantage machine.

Graveborn Muse

Graveborn Muse

The card we’re referencing is Graveborn Muse. Graveborn Muse is an interesting card. With enough Zombie support, Graveborn Muse has the potential to draw a decent chunk of cards every turn. However, if you flood the board with too many Zombies, the life loss could come back to bite you.

The good news is that with a legend like Temmet at the helm, you should be able to convert your board presence and surplus of cards into a ton of combat damage in no time. You can also balance out some of the life loss with life gain. Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Wayward Servant help the cause.

Not only was Graveborn Muse not featured in the Aetherdrift Precon, but it’s been quite a while since the card received a traditional reprint. Outside of its appearance on The List, Graveborn Muse has only ever been printed in Legions and Tenth Edition with the same artwork. For reference, Tenth Edition came out back in 2007. The lack of reprints coupled with the card’s sudden demand has contributed significantly to its spike.

The Spike

Now, it’s time to take a closer look at the card’s surge in price in recent days. For Tenth Edition copies of Graveborn Muse, the card saw a very slow increase from February 5 until near the end of the month. According to TCGplayer market price, during this time frame, non-foil copies of Graveborn Muse went from their lowest point of $2.46 to $3.62 at the end of the month.

Since the start of March, however, the card has seen a massive spike. Market price currently lists the non-foil version at $5.98, but this doesn’t tell the full story. Most sales of Graveborn Muse in March went for between $13 and $20. Currently, the cheapest sales listing moving forward is $19.50, showcasing that even moderately played variants of the card have become rather expensive. This gap represents a 693% price spike over the last month.

Meanwhile, The List versions are all selling for over $34 at the moment, which is a huge difference. For players interested in purchasing cheaper copies of Graveborn Muse, Legions is your best bet. Still, non-foil copies of Graveborn Muse from Legions have gone from selling for $1.38 a month ago to roughly $11 now. This is a 697% price spike, which is a quite similar ratio as the Tenth Edition counterpart.

At the moment there are only 6 listings for The List printing of Graveborn Muse available. 11 listings exist for the tenth edition variant, and another 45 listings are available for Legions on TCGplayer. This is certainly on the lower end of things, suggesting a rise in demand for Graveborn Muse.

Graveborn Muse hasn’t really shown any signs of slowing down, either. So, make sure to check your collection if you think you might have some copies lying around. This may not be the last Zombie to see its price go up.
