Lord Of The Rings Instant Spikes 261% Due To Lorwyn Elf Hype

Looks like Elves are back on the menu, boys!

While 2025 may be winding down right now, the Magic: The Gathering hype engines are still sitting on standby. In just a couple of weeks, preview season for Lorwyn Eclipsed will begin, finally delivering a long-awaited return for the beloved, titular plane. Based on what we’ve seen from the set so far, many players are jumping on older cards in anticipation, causing serious ripples on the secondary market.

Offering potentially board-doubling token generation and a one-sided Fog effect, Galadhrim Ambush is a monster of an MTG card. Whether you’re using it offensively or defensively, it’s hard not to get a ton of value out of this instant. The only real trouble with it is the Elf-y nature, which largely confines it to typal decks.

Go wide Commanders like Lathril, Blade of the Elves and Voja, Jaws of the Conclave love this card, but it’s hardly a format staple. Outside of this niche, a few Golgari Aristocrats decks, like Baba Lysaga, Night Witch also use this card, but there’s not much beyond that.

Notably, however, the card does make an excellent pairing with High Perfect Morcant from Lorwyn Eclipsed. Since it produces Elves en masse, it offers an easy way to stack up Blight triggers for your opponent. It also gives you plenty of Elves to use Morcant’s Proliferate ability, making it trivial to clear everyone else’s board. According to EDHREC, 64% of early Morcant brews include the card, which makes a ton of sense.

The Spike

Galadhrim Ambush MTG Price Spike

Thanks to newfound demand from MTG players looking to try out High Perfect Morcant, Galadhrim Ambush has been experiencing a significant price spike recently. On December 12th, the day after Morcant was spoiled, a whopping 315 copies of the card’s default printing were sold on TCGplayer, followed by 150 the next day. This was a huge resurgence in interest for the card, and caused the price to jump in turn. From $0.85 in late November, the card climbed to the $3.07 position it sits in now, marking a 261% spike.

Sales have slowed down on Galadhrim Ambush since, but the price is still trending upwards. Over the past few days, we’ve seen copies selling in the $3.21-$3.99 range. There are still 58 near-mint copies of the card available on TCGplayer, so the supply isn’t totally depleted just yet, but that could change soon.

If that does come to pass, the other printings of Galadhrim Ambush won’t do much to soften the blow. Both the Showcase Scrolls and Extended Art versions are hard to come by, due to being Collector Booster exclusives. TCGplayer has just four copies of the former and six of the latter available at present, but low supply on these is nothing new. Both have seen minor spikes since Morcant’s reveal, but these could quickly escalate if Commander demand for the card continues.

Room To Grow?

Future Potential

In terms of how well the Galadhrim Ambush MTG price spike will hold out in the future, things look positive at the moment. Lorwyn Eclipsed will most likely feature a bunch of Elf support, so we’ll probably see more Commander players trying out the archetype.

Notably, however, this card could easily be reprinted by Wizards of the Coast next year. The most likely place for this to happen is 2026’s Hobbit set, but a precon-based reprint could happen soon. Ultimately, a reprint happening is hardly guaranteed, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Of course, nothing is certain in the world of MTG finance, as plenty of Commander-centric spikes like this one fizzle out after a month or two. If Morcant doesn’t establish itself as a long-lasting deck, then interest in Ambush could quickly drop off, along with the price. On the other hand, the card is quite useful generally, so this spike could well mark a point of no return.
