"Free" Enchantment Wins Event by Enabling Infinite Damage Turn 2

Share

Over the past year, a multitude of unique brews have broken out in Modern thanks to the printing of powerful new toys. Decks like Mono-Green Trudge and Jund Cosmogoyf continue to put up strong tournament results despite their unorthodox playstyles. Now, it appears that another new mono-green archetype capable of turn two kills has emerged, abusing a Marvel two-drop.

Assembling a Fast Combo

During the early turns, this deck’s main goal is to develop a massive mana advantage. Leyline of Abundance leads to your most explosive draws by far, effectively doubling the mana from dorks like Delighted Halfling or Dryad Arbor. By adding Shang-Chi’s Haste-granting ability into the equation, you can chain mana-producing creatures together and build out a big board in short order.

With a wide enough board, simply tutoring for Craterhoof Behemoth with Summoner’s Pact or Green Sun’s Zenith should end the game. If you’re a few mana short, you can always tutor up Eladamri, Korvecdal to sneak Craterhoof into play.

Besides asserting your dominance with raw power, this deck also has a powerful combo finish revolving around Quirion Ranger and Ashaya, Soul of the Wild. By making Quirion Ranger a land, you can repeatedly return the one-drop to your hand and untap your mana dorks. This process nets infinite mana alongside Leyline, Badgermole Cub, or Lotus Cobra, and nets infinite tokens with Springheart Nantuko. Leyline even serves as an infinite mana sink, making your creatures enormous.

Powerful and Underrated

All things considered, this strategy seems extremely powerful and undervalued in the current Modern metagame. Right off the bat, this deck’s explosiveness gives it a shot against even the fastest of decks in Modern. Even against Boros Energy’s slew of efficient beaters, Springheart Nantuko is the perfect roadblock, buying you time to assemble your combo kill.

At the same time, this deck is surprisingly difficult for most slower midrange decks to disrupt. Leyline of Abundance can’t be stopped by traditional interaction, and turns all of your early creatures into must-remove threats.

Even against a seemingly problematic matchup like Living End, whose namesake card decimates your board, Silver-Bullet tutor targets like Tajuru Preserver can save you. Having game against an array of different decks is a huge boon in such a diverse field, so don’t be shocked if Mono-Green Leyline continues to pick up steam following this performance.
