MTG Players Baffled By Surprise Return Of 11-Year-Old Product

A real Clash from the past...

In the current climate of rapid-fire releases, it’s rare for any given Magic: The Gathering set to stick around for long. Each expansion gets a month or two on shelves before the next shiny thing comes along and steals the spotlight. This week, however, is the exception that proves this rule. At various Walmart stores, MTG players have reported seeing the Fate Reforged Clash Pack among the products on offer. Considering this is a product that’s been out of print for more than a decade, said players are understandably confused.

The MTG Fate Reforged Clash Pack Is Back On Shelves?!

Fate Reforged MTG Clash Pack 2025

In a post on r/magicTCG yesterday, Longjumping-Trash743 shared an image of a bunch of Fate Reforged Clash Packs on the shelf at their local Walmart. Others, like Whatthecobb in the comments, backed them up, confirming that this isn’t just a one-off oddity. This is a bizarre development for a number of reasons. Not only is Fate Reforged a set from way back in 2014, long since out of print, but the Clash Pack is a very specific product from its range.

For those who weren’t playing back then, Clash Packs were an alternate take on Starter Decks. They contained two 60-card decks, allowing two players to get to grips with the rules of the game. Perhaps most interestingly, they also came with six exclusive alternate-art foil cards, three in each deck. While the idea here was solid, the initiative was unfortunately short-lived. After just three iterations, Clash Packs were officially discontinued in 2016.

While the exact reasoning behind this decision is unclear, more than likely it was down to the product line just not selling very well. If this is the case, then it explains this strange reappearance over 10 years later. Presumably, a bunch of Clash Packs were shunted off into storage after failing to sell in 2014, and they’ve only just been dug up for resale now. Several players in the comment posited this theory, with others who work in retail backing it up as a likely explanation.

Whether this is true or not, it’s definitely clear that this isn’t an official roll-out from Wizards. That said, a lot of players have reported seeing them, and other out-of-print products like Challenger Decks, at their local stores, so clearly it’s more than just a few anomalies.

A Worthwhile Throwback?

Fate Reforged Clash Pack MTG Exclusive Foils

The fact that the MTG Fate Reforged Clash Pack is available to buy in 2025 is more than just a fun curio. This is a product with some reasonable value behind it, which could make a great buy at the right price.

A lot of this is down to the six exclusive alternate-art foils in the deck. They’re easy to overlook when scanning through the lists, but these add a lot of extra value. Whip of Erebos, for example, is a $13 card in this treatment right now. Courser of Kruphix is also a solid value hit at around $4. Factor in the other four cards, and this batch represents over $18 in value right out of the gate.

The rest of the cards on offer here are less exciting, but there are still some gems to be found. You’ll get a full playset of Self-Mill staple Satyr Wayfinder, as well as a copy of the ever-useful Treasure Cruise. All in all, the value comes to just under $20. Combined with the foil cards, this makes the Fate Reforged Clash Pack a $38 product.

Of course, as with all MTG products, the value you’ll get here depends on how much you have to pay for it. There’s no MSRP here since it’s a re-release, and the comments on Longjumping-Trash743’s thread don’t shed any light on pricing. One of the images shared appears to show the packs on sale for $8.82, however, which is an absolutely incredible deal. If you see these around at that price, you could do far worse than picking one up.
