Preview season for the next Magic: The Gathering set, Edge of Eternities, is fast approaching. Next week we’ll see the debut of the set, and likely get a nice batch of preview cards to boot. It’s not all about the new cards, mind you. Edge of Eternities is also bringing with it a sizable suite of in-store rewards, including some pretty peculiar collectibles.
If you’ve ever wanted to own some MTG patches or maybe a fridge magnet, then Edge of Eternities has you covered. By playing in events for the new set over time, you can earn up to four unique prizes. Unfortunately, these rewards, like a lot of cool Magic goodies lately, are region-exclusive. Unless you’ve got friends in Australia or New Zealand, you may be out of luck on these ones.
The Bizarre Edge Of Eternities Event Rewards
The special in-store rewards for Edge of Eternities were announced by Wizards of the Coast on Tuesday. As with similar initiatives in the past, players will be able to earn prizes in a tiered system by taking part in multiple events at their local WPN store. From July 25th (Edge of Eternities Prerelease) onwards, taking part in Draft, Prerelease, Sealed, or Standard events will earn rewards.
For taking part in one event, you can earn a ‘Station Tracker’ card, which helps you keep track of your Station cards in-game. For two, you get an Endstone fridge magnet. This is one of the stranger in-store rewards Wizards has given out to date. We don’t even know what its role in the story is yet, and already the Endstone has been reduced to a humble fridge magnet.
Three events will get you two of the five Faction Badges for the set. These appear to be patches that can be sewn onto jackets, bags, etc., so a fairly substantial reward. Four events gets you the grand prize: an Edge of Eternities ID holder, for use at conventions, or elsewhere.
These rewards are a bit of a mixed bag. Even if you do like them, however, you likely won’t be able to get your hands on them. These can only be earned at WPN stores in Australia or New Zealand, so the rest of the world is out of luck. It’s disappointing to see more MTG goodies locked behind a regional barrier, but at least it isn’t pricey promo cards this time.
