Wizards of the Coast has been keeping their cards close to their chest for the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender MTG crossover set. Since MagicCon: Las Vegas, we’ve barely heard a peep from this set, with only a couple of cards being revealed at San Diego Comic-Con. This isn’t really a surprise, considering that Edge of Eternities was yet to launch at the time, and the MTG Spider-Man set is on the horizon too.
Despite Spider-Man still being the next set to release, Wizards will be providing new information about Avatar: The Last Airbender very soon. Later today, Wizards is holding a new WeeklyMTG livestream dedicated to the set. This livestream is expected to reveal a few more early spoilers, as well as debut the bending techniques we’ve long been speculating about.
While it’s not long before this much-anticipated livestream takes place, Wizards isn’t hiding everything until then. Late last night, Wizards unveiled the main products for the Avatar: The Last Airbender MTG set. For better or worse, this new round of reveals does answer some questions, but it raises a lot of them, too
New MTG Avatar Products
While we don’t have any new cards or mechanics to look at, some new MTG Avatar product artwork was revealed today. Posted by X user unowncollect, these images reveal a lot of the typical products we would see with any MTG set release, like Collector Boosters and Bundles. On top of these elements that we expect from every release, the Avatar: The Last Airbender set will also include a Commanders Bundle.
This particular product isn’t something that MTG players have seen before. Aside from this product including a Collector’s Booster, we have absolutely no idea what a Commander’s Bundle is. Many players suspect this product will include a bunch of reskinned Commander staples like Sol Ring and Arcane Signet with Avatar artwork. Alternatively, it could include some mainset cards as a sort of Precon alternative product. It could even contain a handful of new mechanically unique cards. The possibilities are endless.
So far, Commander precons have not been confirmed as a product for the Avatar: The Last Airbender set. Given the name, it does feel like the Commanders Bundle could be a replacement for precons, but that hasn’t been confirmed. Thankfully, we shouldn’t have to wait long to know more, as we’ll be finding out new information later today.
Other Confirmed Products
Thanks to early product images, we now know that two new Scene Boxes will be coming to MTG with Avatar: The Last Airbender. One depicts the failed Black Sun Invasion by the allies, while the other illustrates the final scene in the series after Aang takes down Firelord Ozai.
Currently, it’s unclear if these new Scene Boxes will include main set or eternal legal cards. Past trends indicate these boxes should contain six new eternal legal cards each, but we won’t know for sure until Wizards confirms things officially.
Jumpstart products are also confirmed to return with Avatar: The Last Airbender. So far, we only have a two booster Jumpstart Blister Pack at this point to see. On top of all this, there’s also a new Avatar: The Last Airbender Beginner Box, similar to the one from MTG Foundations.
Notably, the products we’ve seen so far aren’t the entire product lineup for the Avatar: The Last Airbender MTG set. For starters, Play Boosters aren’t part of this recently revealed selection, and this Standard legal set undoubtedly has those. Potentially, this means Wizards has plenty more to reveal today, which could mean Commander precons are still on the bundle. We’ll just have to wait and see what gets revealed later today during the WeeklyMTG livestream.
