New MTG Deadpool Legend Causes Synergistic Enchantment to Triple in Price

Share

Earlier this week, Wizards revealed a really unique Secret Lair product featuring a brand-new Hero card in the form of Deadpool, Trading Card. Not only does the Secret Lair boast some valuable reprints, but Deadpool himself has a ton of appeal.

Many players are eager to see Deadpool in action in Commander. Deadpool enables a lot of combos, and there’s hope that Deadpool will even show up in cEDH.

As you might expect, this hype has caused some synergistic cards to spike significantly. For example, The Master, Multiplied ballooned in price by over 2800% just a few days ago. Now, it seems a token producer that goes hard with both Deadpool and The Master, Multiplied is on the rise, too. Let’s take a closer look.

Determined Iteration

Determined Iteration

The token generator that has spiked hard is Determined Iteration. Determined Iteration is a rather efficient enchantment with a pretty sweet ability. Every turn, you get to make a copy of another token you control. Unfortunately, the token you create doesn’t stick around permanently, but there are still a few ways to abuse this ability.

Where Determined Iterations shines brightest is in Commander decks that are capable of making tokens with strong enters-the-battlefield effects. For example, with Mishra, Eminent One at the helm, you can use Mishra to make a token copy of an artifact like Ichor Wellspring, then make another copy with Determined Iteration, and draw a good chunk of cards out of the deal.

By far the strongest legend to pair with Determined Iteration, however, is The Master, Multiplied. The Master, Multiplied makes it so that any token you produce via Determined Iteration won’t actually get sacrificed at the end of your turn. Its myriad ability even fuels Determined Iteration by giving you extra tokens to make copies of on later turns.

This interaction alone is nice, but the main reason that both of these cards spiked is that they both work well alongside Deadpool, Trading Card. Deadpool is an exceptionally annoying card for your opponents to deal with. Because its first ability isn’t actually a triggered ability, even if your opponents have removal for Deadpool at the ready, you still get to steal an opposing creature’s textbox and mess with your opponents’ plans.

So, what makes Deadpool so intriguing with The Master, Multiplied and Determined Iteration? Well, if you have any way to make a token copy of Deadpool, such as by using Saw in Half, The Master, Multiplied allows all of those tokens to stick around, since the “legend rule” doesn’t apply to them.

Deadpool can also switch texts with your Master and start abusing Myriad to make copies of itself.

From there, Determined Iteration can start spewing copies of Deadpool into play. This makes it nearly impossible for any of your opponents to actually stick their Commander without its textbox getting stolen in short order. Pulling off this “combo” does require a decent number of cards, but luckily, Deadpool is just a great card on its own.

Determined Iteration Spike

Determined Iteration has only ever been printed in New Capenna Commander and has seen a big jump in price since Deadpool was revealed. Between March 8 and March 31, non-foil, near mint copies of Determined Iteration rose a tiny bit according to TCGplayer market price. However, between April 1 (when Deadpool was previewed) and April 6, a much steeper incline occurred.

According to TCGplayer market price, Determined Iteration rose from under $11 to over $16 in that span. Obviously, this isn’t too wide a margin, but the current sales listings suggest that the spike is larger than that. Right now, the cheapest price listing on TCGplayer sits at $19.45. Determined Iteration hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down, either, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see this number rise further over the next couple days.

This is largely because there has been a huge increase in demand for Determined Iteration since Deadpool was revealed. Since Between April 1 and April 6, inclusive, there have been over 100 separate sales of Determined Iteration in its traditional form. This far exceeds the number of sales even in the two weeks prior combined.

Extended Art

As big as the spike for traditional copies of Determined Iteration was, the spike associated with the extended art variant is much higher. On March 10, the market price for the extended art versions of Determined Iteration rested under $8.

Today, the lowest price listing available is $24.69. This suggests that extended art copies of Determined Iteration have more than tripled in price. Meanwhile, the most recent sale went for $30.64, which is even higher.

This is still a minimal spike compared to the massive jump that The Master, Multiplied experienced a few days ago. Regardless, it showcases that any token related synergistic pieces that mesh with both Deadpool, Trading Card and The Master, Multiplied could increase in price in the coming days. Deadpool is a heck of a Magic card, so keep your eyes peeled for any other financial shifts in the near future.
