Players Scramble to Buy Incredible MTG Final Fantasy Costco Deal

Share

Magic’s Final Fantasy crossover is one of, if not the most successful, MTG sets ever released. Anyone who’s not convinced of that fact can simply look at the prices that everything is selling for. Commander precons, in particular, are selling for ridiculous prices. You’ll have a tough time finding three of the precons for under $70 ($80 for some), while Revival Trance still goes for around $50 each. That’s not even for the full packaging, either.

That’s why Costco’s current Final Fantasy deal is so incredible. Not only can you get a sought-after Final Fantasy Commander deck for cheap, but you’ll also get some extra Play Boosters and a series of promo cards.

Costco Final Fantasy MTG Bundle

This Final Fantasy bundle, first captured on Reddit, is an absolutely incredible deal. This bundle, including two Play Boosters, four promo cards, and the Limit Break Commander precon, retails for $60. That’s already a $20-$30 discount on the Limit Break precon alone.

This deal is absolutely incredible for any Commander precon except Revival Trance, but since Final Fantasy Play Boosters are worth about $8 each, you’re even getting ahead with the worst deck of the bunch. Not including the promo value, here’s how much you’ll be saving with these kits using fully packaged value on TCGplayer:

  • Limit Break: $48
  • Counter Blitz: $38
  • Scions & Spellcraft: $33
  • Revival Trance: $14

This deal is good enough to have MTG players going Costco hunting for them. With the amount of savings on the line, this makes a lot of sense. That said, for some MTG players, finding this deal isn’t just a plus, but a necessity. If you want to collect every variant of every Final Fantasy card, the promos in this Costco bundle are unique.

Starter Deck Promos

In addition to a Commander deck and some Play Boosters, the Costco Final Fantasy MTG bundle also comes with promo versions of four mechanically unique cards. These can’t be found in the main set, but are instead from the Final Fantasy Starter Kit aimed at teaching newer players.

These cards aren’t particularly powerful, but they are rather hard to come by without buying the Starter Kit itself. For players who are interested in collecting these mechanically unique cards without grabbing the rest of the cards, this is a great alternative.

Unlike the cards from the Starter Kit, these four promos have the signature star-shaped promo stamp in the set symbol area, which technically makes them unique printings of the card. That won’t mean much for a majority of MTG players, but it does add another variation of a Final Fantasy card for avid collectors.

More importantly, some of these cards offer the only foil treatments for them on the market. It’s not like these cards are useless for gameplay purposes, either. Cloud, Planet’s Champion, in particular, is a flavorful addition to Limit Break and otherwise fits in other equipment-matters Commander decks.

As far as financial value goes, despite these cards being somewhat difficult to acquire, a majority of them aren’t worth much. The exception is Cloud, Planet’s Champion, which retails for about $7.70 for its cheapest variant. Sephiroth, Planet’s Heir goes for about $2.50 at its cheapest, but there are notable premiums for rarer variants of the card.

Ultimecia, Temporal Threat and Lightning, Security Sergeant are the cheapest two, worth about $1.20 and $1.40, respectively. That said, these promos in this bundle are the only foil treatments for the traditional bordered variants of these cards, which do subject them to a potential premium.

This adds a minimum secondary market value of about $12 to the bundle, but there’s a good chance that secondary market values for these variants might work out to more than that.

An Incredible Deal… If You Can Find it

The savings to be had with the Costco Final Fantasy bundle are undeniable. Should you find these, consider grabbing them. Even if only Revival Trance is left, it’s still a decent deal as long as you want the deck.

The problem, more so, will occur when trying to find these bundles in the first place. If you do go hunting for them, there’s a chance you’ll be too late.

Scalpers, as they always do, have already started buying up these products and relisting them for their secondary market value. This suggests that these Costco products won’t be available for very long. There is a silver lining in this at the time of writing, however. There are few records of any sales occurring for upcharged Costco Final Fantasy bundles so far.

If you’re interested in trying to track down some Costco bundles, it’s best to start searching sooner rather than later. Every Final Fantasy fan who doesn’t have the Commander precons will be trying to track these down. Hopefully, the fans who want to play with these cards are the ones to ultimately get them.
