MTG Star Trek Players Uncover Unannounced 'Tribble' Card Ahead of Release

Share

Technically, the spoiler season for MTG Star Trek ended last week when Wizards fully released the set’s card image gallery. While this is business as usual for a new MTG set, it appears that Star Trek may have some tricks up its sleeve.

Ahead of the set’s release this Friday, when prerelease events kick off, MTG players have discovered some seemingly unannounced Star Trek cards. Right now, sadly, there’s very little information available about these cards, but in a way, that makes them more exciting.

With no word on availability, release date, or even if they’re real, these MTG cards have definitely piqued players’ interest. Whether or not we’ll actually be able to own them, however, is another question entirely.

Unannounced MTG Star Trek Tribble Cards

Even though Star Trek Prerelease hasn’t started yet, MTG players have somehow already gotten their hands on Star Trek cards. On Facebook, some players are already posting their early pulls, including cards that we’ve never even seen before.

While Scotty, Miracle Worker Scotty, Miracle Worker Scotty, Miracle Worker During your main phase, each card in your graveyard has beam me up. The beam me up cost is equal to that spell's mana cost. Scotty can't be beamed up to cast a spell this way. (Only instant and sorcery spells can be cast this way. You may cast a card from your graveyard for its beam me up cost if you also return another creature you control to its owner's hand. Then exile that spell.) is a real main set card, this Tribble-covered artwork doesn’t exist anywhere. According to the set’s card image gallery, there should only be the default frame, “Classic Enterprise Card,” and surge foil variants.

According to Wizards, this newly discovered Tribble-focused variant doesn’t exist; however, the collector number indicates it could, at least. Currently, there’s a five-card gap between the 0326 Forest and the 0332 Federation Outpost. With this Scotty, Miracle Worker variant sitting at 0328, it could fill in one of the blanks.

Sadly, while this Scotty, Miracle Worker variant might have the right collector number, that doesn’t answer where it came from. Annoyingly, the Facebook post doesn’t provide any details about this; however, people in the comments claim this isn’t the only Tribble card.

Supposedly, somewhere out there, there’s also a variant of one of the Kirks that is covered in Tribbles. These might be cards deliberately kept secret as a surprise, but that’s just a guess right now.

Speaking of guessing, we can only assume that we’re missing a full five-card cycle of Tribble variants. From the looks of things, one of these might also be Nyota Uhura, Communications Nyota Uhura, Communications Nyota Uhura, Communications Hailing Frequencies — As Nyota Uhura enters, choose a number between 0 and 10.

 A Cracking Surprise

Since MTG Star Trek hasn’t been officially released yet, we’re still in the dark about these unannounced Tribble cards. For now, we can only wait and see what happens once prerelease events roll around and packs get cracked en masse.

If these MTG Tribble cards are real and in the main set, Wizards might be trying something new. Unlike other TCG’s, Wizards has always revealed everything beforehand so players and collectors alike know what’s up for grabs.

By deliberately keeping some cards in the dark, players could be in for a great surprise, even if they don’t keep up with spoilers. Whether this is what Wizards is going for, however, is anyone’s guess.

Thankfully, if there is any silver lining to these unannounced cards, it’s that we should know more soon. Since Star Trek prerelease events are just three days away, we may see a lot more Tribble cards than we bargained for shortly.
