Wizards Announces 32 New MTG Quests That Reward Players for Going Outside

Share

Over the years, MTG Arena has put considerable effort into rewarding crossplay between the digital platform and players’ local game stores. The changes to Prerelease rewards are one big example of this, offering players as many in-game packs as they open in their Prerelease kits.

That said, according to Wizards of the Coast, these prior collaborations have only been “a few small experiments.” According to a new article, 32 new MTG Arena quests will kick off this crossplay in earnest on October 1st.

Wizards Play Network Achievements

Starting October 1st, MTG Arena will get a new series of evergreen achievements, but you won’t be able to earn them by playing the game. Instead, you can earn them by interacting with your local game store, which may require apps like MTG Companion.

Among the four examples shared in the article, attending an in-person event offers a particularly funny prize. Rewarding the ‘Went Outside’ title, you can show off an activity that can be truly rare in the world of MTG Arena. Other examples include favoriting a store for 1000 gold, attending three in-person Drafts for a free Draft Token, and playing at a Legendary Store for a Jodah, the Unifier Jodah, the Unifier Jodah, the Unifier Legendary creatures you control get +X/+X, where X is the number of legendary creatures you control.
Whenever you cast a legendary spell from your hand, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a legendary nonland card with lesser mana value. You may cast that card without paying its mana cost. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

While a few more features are coming to MTG Arena to encourage players to attend their LGSs, like direct messages and ad carousels from favorited stores, the bulk of this update, as far as MTG players are concerned, is these new quests.

Early reactions to these changes have been mixed but largely positive overall. Any rewards for players who participate in in-person events can only be a good thing, but they still pale in comparison to what players had in the past. While we may never have DCI rewards that directly mail promotional cards to us, this is still a huge step in the right direction, and the community is happy to see it.
