As much as it is an interesting strategy, out of the box, the Multiverse Reforged precon sadly isn’t amazing. Thankfully, this deck can easily be improved by a round of upgrades that also remove some of the interesting but poorly placed legends. Cards like The Ur-Sphinx, for instance, are far better helming their own deck, and players have quickly picked up on that.
Ever since The Ur-Sphinx was revealed, MTG players have flocked to it, building around its unique Sphinx Typal strategy. This, in turn, has caused a variety of Sphinx-based price spikes, and now Medomai the Ageless is the latest to jump in value.

Within the right deck, Medomai the Ageless is a seriously powerful Sphinx. Even with its attack-preventing clause stopping easy shenanigans, getting an extra turn for dealing damage is hugely valuable. On its own, this is a huge value swing, but it gets even better with Double Strike or with

Whenever this creature attacks, create a tapped and attacking token that's a copy of the exiled card, except it's an Illusion in addition to its other types. Sacrifice that token at end of combat.
. By creating an attacking Medomai token each turn, you can skirt the attacking clause for maximum value. Alternatively, for slightly less value, you can use Mister Fantastic to triple the number of extra turns you get with Medomai.
More recently, MTG players have been picking up Medomai the Ageless thanks to The Ur-Sphinx making Sphinx Typal viable. Here, not only is Medomai a Sphinx, but it’s also one that cares about attacking. This allows it to work wonders with The Ur-Sphinx, especially since you can attack more on your extra turn.
Admittedly, while there is some solid synergy here, Medomai the Ageless isn’t a make-or-break card in the 99. Still, since there aren’t many Sphinxes to choose from, it has become a popular addition to The Ur-Sphinx decks. According to EDHREC, Medomai is in 78% of The Ur-Sphinx decks, increasing the card’s play rate by roughly 1,700 decks.
A Solid Spike
As a mythic that has only ever been printed in 2013’s Theros, Medomai the Ageless has long been somewhat expensive. Following prices creeping up in November 2025, near-mint copies have been going for around $4.50 on average. Recently, however, in September, prices dipped down to just $3.08, right before Multiverse Reforged was revealed.
Once this precon was unveiled, Medomai the Ageless saw a sudden sales spike, with over 170 near-mint copies being sold. This has left very little supply on the market, as there are now just 11 listings left, with prices starting at $9.99. This marks a 224% price spike in just a couple of weeks, which is always an impressive feat.
Unfortunately, while there are technically a few cheaper copies of Medomai the Ageless available, they’re not amazing. On TCGplayer, you could pick up a damaged copy for $7.25, or a lightly played example for $8.98. While the latter of these options isn’t amazing, supply is down across the board, pushing prices up considerably.
A Steady Sphinx?
As much as it is impossible to predict the future, especially in MTG, Medomai the Ageless doesn’t seem too bad. Unlike some Sphinxes that spiked incredibly hard early on, like Sphinx Ambassador, MTG players have seemingly been more measured here. Rather than exploding in value overnight, Medomai has been ticking up across months, with the climb first starting last November.
Thanks to this, the supply of Medomai the Ageless has been dwindling for some time, making this spike look more player-driven. Even once The Ur-Sphinx was revealed, there wasn’t a consistent buyout, as prices and sales plateaued at a few points. This steady climb appears to indicate that MTG players are responsible, rather than investors, which usually leads to longer spikes.
Without the desire for a return on investment, MTG players are typically happy to keep and enjoy their new cards. As a result, supply often returns to the market more slowly than with investor-driven spikes. If that’s the case this time around, Medomai the Ageless could stay expensive for months, not just weeks.
Saying that, as much as The Ur-Sphinx is a hot topic right now, we’ll be getting new cards and Commanders before too long. With the MTG Star Trek set on the horizon, there’s a non-zero chance that interest could fade, causing prices to fall. Whether or not this will actually happen, however, remains to be seen, so we can only really wait for now.
