Announced as a late addition to the 2026 MTG release calendar, Mystery Booster Commander Edition is a welcome surprise. Replacing the outgoing Mystery Booster 2, this new product is the latest mostly convention-exclusive Magic: The Gathering set.
As the name suggests, this time around the set is geared around Commander, with new cards and a different draft format. Ahead of the set’s full release later this year, here’s everything you need to know about the Mystery Booster Commander Edition MTG set.
Mystery Booster Commander Edition Release Date
Mystery Booster Commander Edition will be ‘released’ on November 13th, when the set makes its full debut at MagicCon: Atlanta. While product will be available for attendees of this event, the set won’t be getting a full retail release. Instead, the set will primarily be sold via Festival in a Box.
Following its debut at MagicCon: Atlanta, Mystery Booster Commander Edition will appear at all of the MagicCons in 2027. Additionally, the set should also be available for purchase at Commandfest and Magic Spotlight events. The set should also be available at Gen Con and PAX Unplugged, so getting ahold of it shouldn’t be impossible.

Mystery Booster Commander Edition Spoilers
Unlike past Mystery Booster releases, Mystery Booster Commander includes 60 brand-new cards, all of which are legendary Commanders. This is a pretty stacked lineup overall, including Rulebreakers that push the boundaries of the game, and lore deep cuts that hearken back to Magic’s storied past.
In addition to the new cards, Mystery Booster Commander Edition also features a very healthy suite of reprints. Nine previously Alchemy-only cards are getting paper printings here, and some of the spiciest hits from Mystery Booster 2, like the Vanguard legends, are back too.
Mystery Booster Commander Edition Availability
Given how tricky Mystery Booster 2 has been to find in the past, players are naturally concerned about the availability of Mystery Booster Commander Edition. With mechanically unique cards in the mix this time around, there’s a lot more to miss out on, after all. Thankfully, according to Mark Rosewater, this shouldn’t be a major issue.
Between the number of times this set will be available and reportedly increased supply, ideally, there shouldn’t be any production issues. Even if there are, any problems should be short-lived.
