New Secret Lair Bonus Cards Include Unusual Turn-Ending Mythic

Share

Back in late April, the Back to School Secret Lair Superdrop officially went on sale. Offering a multitude of cool products, including My Little Pony and Dwarf Fortress crossovers, this Superdrop was met with a lot of hype. Now, despite delays, MTG players are getting their hands on their much-anticipated cards. This, as always, has allowed the latest suite of bonus cards to be revealed, and there are a few exciting options to look out for.

Glorious End

Coming as a bonus card in the Secret Lair x Dwarf Fortress: Create New World product, Glorious End is a potentially devastating effect. At minimum, casting this instant on your opponent’s upkeep essentially skips their turn, putting them massively behind. The key to making this card work in your favor, however, is stopping yourself from losing the following turn.

Fortunately, other “End the Turn” effects like Obeka, Brute Chronologist and Sundial of the Infinite can do just that. Glorious End also pairs perfectly with The Twelfth Doctor, since you can force your opponent to copy the instant and resolve it before yours. This way, the turn will end all the same, but your opponent is the one stuck with the game-ending threat.

Unfortunately, as unique as this card is, its narrow applications have prevented it from rising much in price. With a reprint value barely over $1, this bonus card pales in comparison to the $30 Crucible of Worlds that’s also a potential pull in this Secret Lair.

Relic of Legends

Since its initial printing in Dominaria United, Relic of Legends has been a Commander staple. While this card is at its best in “legendary matters” decks like Jodah, the Unifier, it’s good enough at face value to see play in 213,000 decks according to EDHREC. Once you factor in the artifact’s Pioneer Five-Color Legends appeal, it’s easy to see why the card is in high demand.

Given that Relic of Legends is an uncommon, though, it’s still hardly a pricy reprint. Regardless, it’s nice to see this elite $1.40 mana rock get its first Secret Lair printing, given its popularity. Players can find this bonus card in the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Secret Lair.

Night’s Whisper

As an efficient source of card advantage, Night’s Whisper is a decent addition to any black Commander deck. Strategies that reward you for casting noncreature spells or drawing cards, such as Silverquill, the Disputant and Sheoldred, the Apocalypse decks, can get even more mileage out of this card. Given its low opportunity cost, however, it makes sense that it sees play in 443,000 decks according to EDHREC.

From a reprint value perspective, though, Night’s Whisper is a dud. This common has earned a bunch of reprints in recent Commander precons, dropping its value down to $0.25. As such, this addition doesn’t add a ton to the value of the My Little Pony: Lands of Equestria drop.
