While spoiler season for the Marvel Super Heroes main set felt quick, it was nothing compared to that of its Jumpstart product. Every new card from there was previewed on Monday, leaving very little time to take in all 185 of them. This has led to many new MTG cards, like Daredevil, Fearless Fighter, going relatively overlooked so far. This is a crying shame, since Matt Murdock’s Mono-Red incarnation looks to be a menace in the command zone.
Daredevil, Fearless Fighter MTG

Essentially, Daredevil, Fearless Fighter turns every instance of self-damage you take into a free burn spell. When paired with spells that damage the entire table, like Price of Progress and Flame Rift, it lets your burn punch much harder than usual. It’s particularly nice with cards that deal you damage over time, like Descent into Avernus and Sulfuric Vortex.
Even without extra support, Daredevil can dish out the damage with its attack ability alone. This works best with cards that have high base mana costs, like Bedlam Reveler and Emrakul, the Promised End. You’ll also want to include topdeck filter effects like Scroll Rack, and Firebender Ascension to double the attack trigger for more damage.
To offset all the self-damage inherent in a Daredevil deck, you’ll want to give it Lifelink with Basilisk Collar or Shadowspear. You can tutor either up with Urza’s Saga to give you the staying power you’ll need for a deck like this. Alternatively, you can suit Daredevil up with Grafted Exoskeleton and massively speed up your clock instead.
Playing Daredevil like this will let you burn down your opponents over time, but it’s actually capable of killing them outright with a couple of key cards. With Heartless Hidetsugu or Volcano Hellion, for example, Daredevil can easily take one opponent out of the game. Throw in a trigger doubler like Strionic Resonator, and these lines will take down two opponents instead, putting you very close to victory.
A Hero In Your Corner

In addition to being great in the command zone, Daredevil, Fearless Fighter also has a lot to offer in the 99 of other decks. With Commanders that want to be losing life anyway, like Rowan, Scion of War and Greven, Predator Captain, it serves as both an enabler and a payoff. It’s also excellent in Isshin, Two Heavens as One, where you can reliably double its attack trigger for big swings.
Daredevil even lets you draw your whole deck in Grixis colors, alongside Spiteful Visions, Curiosity, and a Lifelink granter. Give Daredevil Curiosity and Lifelink, and then the next time you take damage or draw a card you’ll start a loop that lets you go through your deck.
From here, you can finish things off with Thassa’s Oracle, or even the new Doctor Doom, Unrivaled. Since Nekusar, the Mindrazer plays the bulk of these cards anyway, it’s not much of a stretch to slot this combo in there.
Overall, whether it’s leading the charge or serving in the 99, Daredevil, Fearless Fighter has a ton of Commander potential.
