Though they’ve been showing up fairly regularly elsewhere, Wizards has really pushed the boat out on uncommon legendary creatures in Marvel Super Heroes. In fact, in an unprecedented move, literally every uncommon creature in the set is legendary. While many of these are clearly Limited role-players, some, like Shuri, Wakandan Inventor, are legitimate MTG Commander options in their own right.
Shuri, Wakandan Inventor MTG

As her name suggests, Shuri, Wakandan Inventor lets you get really creative with artifacts using her activated ability. At a baseline, this lets you turn fodder artifacts like Ichor Wellspring into useful on-board pieces, like Kappa Cannoneer. With activated ability doublers such as Illusionist’s Bracers in the mix, you can transform multiple artifacts at once with Shuri for huge value.
To do this, however, you’ll need enough artifact fodder to repurpose. Token producers, like April O’Neil, Human Element and Sai, Master Thopterist can help here. If you go deep on the token route, payoffs like Worldwalker Helm and Krark-Clan Ironworks will push things even further.
A notable aspect of Shuri is that her copy effect ignores the legend rule. Most players have noted how good this is with The One Ring already, but it also works with powerhouses like Throne of Eldraine and Chimil, the Inner Sun. You can even copy the non-legendary versions with Clone effects like Phyrexian Metamorph, to keep the second copy around permanently.
All of this potential comes on top of Shuri’s artifact-discounting passive ability, which is arguably even more powerful. This helps you cast all of Shuri’s relevant synergy pieces cheaper, letting you get ahead of the table early on. It’s particularly good alongside mana rocks and cards like Etherium Sculptor, which can ramp you into game-enders like Krang, Utrom Warlord with ease.
Seeing Double

While you wouldn’t expect it from a two-mana uncommon, Shuri also enables a range of spicy infinite combos. Alongside Mindslaver and Transmutation Font, for example, Shuri lets you control another player at the table permanently.
Simply tap Font to make a token, then use Shuri to turn it into a non-legendary Mindslaver. Sacrifice the copy to use its ability, then you can repeat the process next turn. While this won’t win you the game outright, having a permanent ally will put you in a great spot. You can pull off the same combo with The Stasis Coffin, too, to keep yourself safe from almost everything in perpetuity.
For a less flashy, but more effective Shuri combo, you can use Sensei’s Divining Top and Mystic Forge to draw your whole deck. Tap Top to draw and put it on top of your library, and you can then cast it for free thanks to Shuri’s discount and repeat. With a Thassa’s Oracle or Laboratory Maniac in the mix, this is an easy early win in Mono-Blue.
All in all, despite its rarity, Shuri, Wakandan Inventor, feels like one of the best new legends in MTG Marvel Super Heroes so far.
