Despite the insane deal it offered, Secret Lair’s Goblin Storm sale went about as badly as it possibly could have. After being available for only 34 minutes, the Secret Lair would quickly be relisted across the secondary market for upwards of $600. Considering the reprints that this deck offered, it’s no wonder that this deck caused one of the worst Secret Lair sales of the year. If that weren’t bad enough, it turns out that one of this Secret’s Lair’s more expensive reprints might be even more valuable than expected.
MTG Moggcatcher
Despite not being a Goblin itself, Moggcatcher seems like the perfect Bonus Card for the Goblin Storm deck. So long as you can untap with it, the Human Mercenary can find the perfect answer for any situation. From taking out nasty artifacts with Goblin Trashmaster, to building a board with Krenko, Mob Boss, Moggcatcher can do it all. If you have Swiftfoot Boots online, you can even use Moggcatcher immediately with enough mana.
While we already knew about Moggcatcher’s inclusion in Goblin Storm because of a leak, we didn’t know that this card would be getting new artwork. Considering that this is already an expensive reprint, this variant of Moggcatcher could become quite pricy. Only appearing in Nemesis as a rare and on The List, Moggcatcher has a $14 secondary market price tag.
While this Bonus Card is a fantastic example of what Secret Lairs should be offering, it only makes Goblin Storm’s horrible sellout feel even worse. The situation was so bad that even the Secret Lair artist was unable to get a copy of their own deck from the sale. Hopefully, Wizards of the Coast can learn from this and offer more supply for Secret Lair precons in the future, but it seems unlikely.
