MTG Players Discover New Two-Card ‘Prepared’ Infinite Combo

Share

In the world of MTG, there are tons of different exciting combos for players to pull off. From infinite mana to lethal damage combos and beyond, there’s something for everyone. Now, with Secrets of Strixhaven spoiler season underway, more and more intriguing new combo lines are being discovered. Most recently, a new two-card Pioneer-legal synergy was unveiled. Centered around Goldspan Dragon and Spiritcall Enthusiast, this line can kill your opponent out of nowhere.

Spiritcall Enthusiast and Goldspan Dragon Combo

The goal behind the Spiritcall Enthusiast and Goldspan Dragon combo is, simply, to make your Dragon infinitely large. In order to get things started, you need to have both creatures in play and make sure the Cat Cleric is Prepared in your first main phase.

From there, you’re able to cast Scrollboost targeting both Goldspan Dragon and another creature of your choice. This will trigger Goldspan Dragon, netting you a Treasure token. Conveniently, the Treasure entering triggers Spiritcall Enthusiast, making it Prepared once more. Since your Treasures tap for two mana, you can cast Scrollboost again. Eventually, after repeating these steps a bunch of times, you can attack for a boatload of damage.

This combo is undoubtedly very interesting, but it is unclear whether it will actually make a competitive splash. Scrollboost being a Sorcery speed spell, in particular, is a major point against the combo. After all, if it were an instant, a Goldspan Dragon attack would Prepare Spiritcall Enthusiast and enable you to go off mid-combat.

Still, with some other Treasure producers like Magma Opus or in the mix, it’s not out of the question that the combo could have legs. Not only do these Treasure makers Prepare Spiritcaller Enthusiast, but the extra mana sets you up to execute the combo quicker. The combo is still flimsy against removal, but protection spells play quite well with Goldspan Dragon anyway. It’ll be interesting to see if players successfully manage to build around this combo after the set’s release.
