Prerelease events for MTG x TMNT have come and gone, and already, early reviews for the set are mixed. While many are likening this set’s Limited experience to a second Spider Man, Commander players seem to be happy. Thanks, in part, to offering so many new cards, the Turtle Power! Commander precon seems to be a hit.
With 39 new MTG TMNT cards offered in this product, there’s bound to be something in the 99 that catches many players’ attention. Despite this, outside of a few of the deck’s Partner Commanders and a land reprint, nothing in the precon seems to be selling for high prices. That appears to be changing, however, as Irma, Part-Time Mutant is seeing a massive price rebound, thanks to players discovering its latent potential.
MTG Irma, Part-Time Mutant

Irma, Part-Time Mutant may just look like another typical clone effect, but there’s a lot going for it. Thanks to the card retaining its name, for instance, Irma can copy your Commanders without worry. This allows the card to take a similar role to many of Commander’s most popular copy effects like Spark Double and Sakashima of a Thousand Faces.
Thanks to this likeness, Irma, Part-Time Mutant can essentially double the efficiency of any Commander with triggered abilities. That happens to be the majority of MTG’s blue Commanders, including many of the most popular Commanders in the game. Atraxa, Praetors’ Voice, for example, can double its Proliferation triggers, and Irma even comes with a counter ready to grow with.
If that weren’t enough, Irma, Part-Time Mutant even has some benefits over these blue Commander super staples. The card is cheaper to cast, grows every turn, and can turn into different creatures as the game progresses. Since Commander copy effects are always high-priority removal targets, having one extra mana to get immediate value is a big deal.
Looking at the playrate of Spark Double and Sakashima, it’s clear why players are so excited about Irma, Part-Time Mutant. Both cards see play in over 150,000 different decks according to EDHREC, and can see play across almost every archetype. Thanks to this, it’s quite possible that Irma, Part-Time Mutant could be an upgrade for a majority of Blue Commander decks.
A Quick Rebound

Like many newly released MTG cards, Irma, Part-Time Mutant saw its price plummet right after prerelease. As an appropriate supply became available to players, Irma quickly dropped to the market average of $3.50. That said, in just a few days, Irma is almost back to her prerelease price following a massive rush of demand for the card.
Thanks to 907 copies of Irma’s traditional variant selling over the weekend, the cheapest you’ll find this card for is around $9.55, according to recent sales and listings. This price point seems extremely stable at this point, but as supply diminishes, there’s a real chance the card could continue to rise in price.
While the price for Irma’s base variant seems quite consistent, her other variants’ pricepoints are a shot in the dark right now. The card’s Surge Foil variant is floating around $35, while its traditional foil variant only has one listing for $99. Notably, since there are no current listings for the traditional foil, the rarity of this variant, or whether it even exists, is unclear.
Tons of Supply Available
Thanks to Irma, Part-Time Mutant supporting the vast majority of popular blue Commander decks, there’s no question that this card is going to be popular. Despite having multiple reprints, Spark Double is still a $10 card, while Sakashima of a Thousand Faces goes for $15 at its cheapest. Considering this, Irma feels like it should be a $10 card at worst.
That said, while prerelease has come and gone, the MTG x TMNT set is not fully released yet. Once the set is fully available this Friday, we should get another wave of supply to big box stores, increasing the available supply for Irma. As a result of this, it’s not uncommon for new cards to truly find their price point a week or two after prerelease.
Additionally, since Irma is part of the Turtle Power! Commander precon, there’s already a ton of supply available for this new copy effect. In the likely scenario that supply keeps up with demand, Irma could settle at a lower price in the short term. That said, once Turtle Power! is out of print, and players have moved on to Magic’s newest sets, Irma should become a very desirable card.
All in all, Irma, Part-Time Mutant has all the makings of an amazing MTG Bracket 3 Commander card, meaning that players should be rightfully excited for this new card. Considering this is the type of MTG cards that Commander players may want in multiples, the Human Mutant Shapeshifter seems destined for success.
