MTG TMNT One-Mana Common Creates Broken 2.5 Card Infinite Combo

Share

With all of the rares and Mythic rares being revealed early, many players assumed there wouldn’t be much left to see in MTG X TMNT’s main set during spoiler season. Uncommons can occasionally make some ripples, but, for the most part, these cards are fully intended not to see play outside of Limited. Despite this, a new common MTG TMNT card appears to have shattered many general trends. Going infinite with a one-mana Goblin from 1999, Sewer-Veillance Cam appears to be the broken common in MTG TMNT.

Going Infinite for Two Mana

Even without going infinite, Sewer-Veillance Cam is a surprisingly efficient MTG card. This cheap little artifact might not seem like much on the surface, but it’s incredibly easy to get value out of. With bounce effects, like Boomerang Basics, for instance, you can continually keep your opponents’ creatures tapped down for cheap. This alone gives the card potential in Esper Pixie and bounce-focused strategies across multiple formats.

While Sewer-Veillance Cam does have potential in Standard and Pauper, many players have become particularly excited about this card due to a new infinite combo. Thanks to the artifact’s untap clauses, Sewer-Veillance Cam can essentially untap Goblin Welder before and after it uses its activated ability. This allows Goblin Welder to continually exchange Sewer-Veillance Cam with any artifact in the graveyard.

In focused strategies, breaking this combo is extremely easy. Any mana rock in your graveyard, from Mox Opal to Arcane Signet, will generate infinite mana with this combo online. From there, any damage artifact or mana sink, like Legion Extruder or Acorn Catapult, will end the game.

Thanks to this combo’s efficiency, Sewer-veillance Cam could even be viable in Legacy Painter’s Servant variants. The deck already runs Goblin Welder, and even includes a natural win condition for the combo in Grindstone. Thanks to the archetype being susceptible to fast starts from decks like 8-Cast, Sewer-veillance Cam can even put in work when you aren’t winning the game with it.

That said, while finding a two-colored shell for the Painter archetype might be a bit tough, this combo will certainly succeed in Commander. Any Izzet-colored Artifact Matters Commanders, from Iron Man, Titan of Innovation to Mishra, Emminent One, can include this combo for very little cost. All of these decks want Goblin Welder naturally already, and Sewer-veillance Cam’s ability to turn into two new cards means it will always do something.

Surprisingly Powerful

Whether you’re going infinite with Goblin Welder or just creating some value by bouncing it, Sewer-veillance Cam certainly looks like it will see more play than any common naturally should. With players already theorycrafting new strategies for the card, Sewer-veilance Cam may see some demand right out of the gate.

Thanks to this, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sewer-veillance Cam had a surprising price tag attached. While it’s unlikely to be more than a few dollars, this innocuous-looking card could make looking through your MTG TMNT commons a fun experience.
