Every year, more and more MTG promo cards make their way out of the woodwork. From fancy foils to beautiful alternate art variants, there are constantly new goodies for players to collect. Typically, the majority of these are earned through competitive or casual gameplay events. Today, however, Wizards of the Coast went in a completely different direction. For Final Fantasy fans who still want more of this blockbuster MTG set, there’s now a brand new Zack Fair promo to collect.

MTG Zack Fair Promo

Earlier today, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 3, 2026. Considering this game has been out on PlayStation 5 for two years, and the Switch 2 will be a year old upon this game’s release, it’s definitely been a long time coming. Still, it’s nevertheless good news that Switch 2 players will soon be able to play the second installment within this trilogy of Final Fantasy VII remakes.

Thankfully, it’s not just good news for Switch 2 owners, as MTG players are also getting a new treat with this game’s fourth release. Anyone who purchases physical copies of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth on Switch 2 will also receive a Zack Fair foil promo. Notably, this isn’t the first time this has happened. In 2025, Wizards offered a Cloud, Midgar Mercenary promo alongside a Final Fantasy VII PC code and Commander deck.

Unfortunately, Zack Fair falls short of Cloud both in power level and in reprint value. As an uncommon, Zack Fair’s price tag doesn’t even crack $0.15 in his cheapest traditional form. While the Human legend has shown up in Pioneer Multicolor Legends shells, his constructed impact is very minimal. Zack Fair is also a very unexciting Commander option that accounts for less than 200 decks according to EDHREC.

The good news, at least, is that he is a reasonable inclusion in the 99 of EDH decks that prioritize protecting their Commanders. His stock has also risen slightly following the release of Lorwyn Eclipsed, since he creates an infinite loop with Isilu, Carrier of Twilight and a sacrifice outlet.

Despite main set copies selling for cheap, there’s a good chance this promo will hold more value. After all, being an exclusive release alongside physical Switch 2 copies of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth almost guarantees a limited supply. This is also the first time Zack Fair is receiving alternate art, making the promo more desirable. Ultimately, it’s impossible to predict exactly how expensive this promo will be, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
