Secrets Of Strixhaven Packaging Teases $40 Commander Staple Reprint

Where there's a Will, there's a way!

Thanks to the surprise spoilers earlier this week, we already know a lot more about Secrets of Strixhaven than we thought we would at this point. We’ve seen a couple of new main set mythics, a Mystical Archive card, and even the set’s full suite of precon face Commanders. Given that Lorwyn Eclipsed has only just been released, this is a ton of information to go on. That said, as more details surface online, players are speculating that another big reprint is being teased.

A New Jeska’s Will Reprint In Secrets Of Strixhaven?!

Thanks to the freshly revealed Japanese packaging for the set, social media channels this week have been abuzz with speculation about a potential reprint of Jeska’s Will in Secrets of Strixhaven. While this theory is far from confirmed at present, there is some compelling evidence in its favor. For starters, Jeska appears on the Japanese Collector Booster box packaging for the set. The original Strixhaven Collector Boosters featured Mystical Archive Memory Lapse artwork the first time around, suggesting a Jeska-related Mystical Archive card here.

If this is the case, then Jeska’s Will makes total sense as a pick. Jeska’s Will is not only good enough to be on the Commander Game Changers list, but it’s also very pricey at around $40 right now. It sees a ton of play in all manner of red Commander decks, as one of the best draw and ramp pieces the color has access to.

Excitingly, the possibility of a Jeska’s Will reprint here could also open the door for the rest of the Will cycle to make a return. While most of these aren’t much to write home about, Akroma’s Will is another certified Commander staple. Sitting at around $13 right now, it’s a stellar protection piece and a capable finisher rolled into one.

All of that said, this is just speculation for now. Wizards isn’t super-consistent with the art it picks for set packaging, and often it doesn’t end up on cards at all. This could be the case here, or the Jeska art could be from a different card. While it would be fantastic to see a Jeska’s Will reprint in Secrets of Strixhaven, I wouldn’t hold my breath until we get more information.
