MTG X TMNT’s spoiler season is going to be one of the strangest that many players will ever experience. Thanks to a mishap that occurred during Lorwyn Eclipsed prerelease, all of the rares and mythics in this set have been spoiled about a month early. With only the commons and uncommons left, the official TMNT spoiler season, starting February 10th, will feel especially hollow.
That said, not every chase MTG TMNT card has been revealed yet. A new MTG TMNT promo revealed by Wizards of the Coast could be extremely expensive.
MTG Super Shredder (Spotlight Series Promo)

Originally revealed during the MTG TMNT first look, Super Shredder is getting a promo appearance at Spotlight Series: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Capable of growing every time a permanent leaves the battlefield, Super Shredder grows extremely quickly. Anything from Treasure Tokens to Fetch Lands can grow this creature, making it a massive beatstick.
This potential goes through the roof in Commander, thanks to a bizarre rules interaction. If an opponent loses the game when Super Shredder is in play, the Mutant Ninja Human will get +1/+1 counters for each permanent that player had. That should be more than enough buffs to knock out your remaining enemies with Commander damage.
Super Shredder also lends himself to becoming a natural win condition when used with a bunch of infinite combos. Any classic Aristocrat combo, like Gravecrawler and Phyrexian Altar, will grow Super Shredder infinitely large. Thanks to all this, Super Shredder looks like an all-star in Commander and has potential in two-player formats as well.
Extremely Expensive Potential
This particular variant of Super Shredder, featuring artwork and a quote that appears to be inspired by a scene in the second TMNT movie, could be quite pricy. All of the Spotlight Series exclusive reprints up to this point have retailed for far more than their base variants, but the premium is even higher for Universes Beyond promos.
Take the recent Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Day of Black Sun Spotlight Series promo, for example. Given its limited play, this board wipe’s base value is about $1.35 on TCGplayer. The Spotlight Series promo, despite being a participation award, is going for a whopping $50! Foil copies, awarded only to the top 128, are even more expensive, retailing for $250 at the time of writing.
That said, most of the Universes Beyond Spotlight Series had multiple events worldwide to celebrate the collaboration. For MTG X TMNT, there’s only one, scheduled for March 6th-8th in Richmond, Virginia. This means that about half as many promos for Super Shredder should be available compared to Avatar: The Last Airbender, potentially driving prices up even further. If Super Shredder ends up living up to the hype, this Standard event won’t be one to miss.
