After just four days, the spoiler season for Lorwyn Eclipsed has officially concluded. That doesn’t mean that Wizards of the Coast is just sitting back to relax today, however. Instead, Wizards has dropped a new announcement, confirming that 30 MTG cards are getting an Errata once Lorwyn Eclipsed is released.
Sorcerers Become Sorcerers

In Lorwyn Eclipsed, Wizards of the Coast finally created the Sorcerer creature type. Appearing on cards like Ashling, Rekindled, this creature type has been a long time coming. Since Capricious Sorcerer first appeared way back in 1997’s Portal, there have been Sorcerers in MTG, but they’ve just been Wizards. Now, this 29-year-long oddity has finally been corrected, and Wizards is implementing an errata to fix past mistakes.
With the release of Lorwyn Eclipsed, 23 MTG cards are getting an errata to grant them the Sorcerer creature type. In total, this will mean there are 34 Sorcerers in MTG, since Lorwyn Eclipsed introduces 11 itself. While this should be just enough to build a Sorcerer Typal deck, there’s sadly no mechanical reason to do this.
Since there aren’t any cards in MTG that mechanically care about Sorcerers, this errata doesn’t really mean anything. No creature that is being errata-ed is losing any creature types either, so there’s barely any change at all. Still, even though this isn’t a massive change, it’s great to see Wizards giving this new type some love already.

Helpful Specificity

While we already knew that Ashling, the Limtless, would be getting an errata, it turns out she’s getting two. This is thanks to Wizards of the Coast creating a new template for abilities that affect casting costs. Not only will this affect Ashling, but it’ll also be applied to Zinnia, Valley’s Voice.
From now on, Zinnia, Valley’s Voice will specify that “Creature spells you cast gain offspring {2} as you cast them.” This small but notable change ensures that players know when the effect is applied. This is a fairly substantial change, as it makes the ability harder to counter.
Previously, if you cast a creature and paid the Offspring cost while Zinnia was on the board, your opponent could simply remove Zinnia. This would mean the cast creature doesn’t have Offspring when it enters, so you don’t get the 1/1 token. Now, however, there’s no getting rid of the Offspring ability once successfully cast, so even if Zinnia is removed, you’ll get the token.
Notably, this errata doesn’t actually affect Ashling at all, but it’s good to see she’s getting the template. Should Wizards make more cards with similar mechanics in the future, they should be similarly easy to understand now.
A Slight Partner Tweak

For better or worse, the final errata coming with Lorwyn Eclipsed isn’t any more impactful. A tweak to the wording of seven Partner cards might sound huge, but it’s really just semantics.
Recently, it seems that Wizards of the Coast has finally settled on the formatting for Partner abilities. While pure Partner cards are a bit of a rarity these days, we’ve been seeing more and more self-contained groups popping up. Since last year’s Secret Lair x PlayStation Superdrop, these have all followed the same formatting.
While this new formatting of Partner – [Group Name] is all well and good going forward, Partner groups have existed previously. Back in 2021, for example, Wizards debuted Partner Groups with “Friends Forever” on the Stranger Things Universes Beyond cards. Now, the wording of this mechanic is getting a slight tweak.
Once Lorwyn Eclipsed is released, cards like Eleven, the Mage, and her Universes Within counterpart will have “Partner—Friends Forever.” This change will be on each of the seven Stranger Things MTG cards that have this ability. Notably, this errata won’t affect the functionality of the mechanic at all.
Curiously, while Stranger Things cards are getting this errata, the similar Doctor’s Companion mechanic isn’t getting a parallel change.
