New Fantastic Four Commander Enables Exciting Infinite Combos

Share

Earlier this week, we got a glimpse and a handful of spoilers from the upcoming Marvel Superheroes set. Despite not actually releasing until June of 2026, we now already got a glimpse at a bunch of main set spoilers, bonus sheet cards, as well as four new Fantastic Four Commanders.

While all four legends are pretty exciting and have the same color identity, Mister Fantastic in particular stands out due to its wealth of intriguing interactions. With strong support pieces alongside him, Mister Fantastic threatens to run away with games either by generating tons of value or enabling unique combo wins.

The Basics

Mister Fantastic

At a baseline, Mister Fantastic has a lot going in its favor. As a three-mana legend that’s capable of drawing a card every turn cycle, the floor on this card is absolutely incredible. It’s pretty easy to incorporate a high density of efficient noncreature spells, including mana rocks, to ensure you get your extra cards during most of your turns. Of course, if you have excess mana to spend, you can always use his final ability to copy this card drawing ability and build your own Ancestral Recall.

This, however, is the bare minimum of Mister Fantastic’s capabilities. Right off the bat, when looking to maximize this Commander, it’s in your best interest to utilize cards with gnarly triggered abilities. This obviously includes brutal enters effects like those associated with Avenger of Zendikar and Etali, Primal Conqueror, but it isn’t limited to these. Given that you still have to spend four mana to utilize Mister Fantastic’s final ability in the first place, pairing this legend with triggered abilities that require no additional mana investment goes a long way.

Medomai, the Ageless, for instance, enables you to take three turns in a row in conjunction with Mister Fantastic. Meanwhile, copying Chimil, the Inner Sun‘s triggered ability lets you pull super far ahead on resources. In a similar vein, triggers that grant you additional combat steps, such as Aurelia, the Warleader‘s attack trigger, make for elite options to copy because Mister Fantastic’s first trigger happens at the beginning of combat. Not only will you be able to attack for a boatload of extra damage, but you’ll also draw a flurry of extra cards in the process. There are seemingly endless possibilities with Mister Fantastic at the helm, and we’re just getting started.

Go Big or Go Home

As fun as it is to copy triggers from your massive haymakers, it can be even stronger to simply end the game outright with Mister Fantastic’s activated ability. This card opens the door for some amazing combos, including one that lets you draw your entire deck.

In order to get this combo started, there are a few prerequisites. First, you need Mister Fantastic in play as well as mana creatures that can produce a total of at least four mana. A single copy of Bloom Tender will suffice under the right circumstances. From there, you need any cheap noncreature spell and Village Bell-Ringer in your hand.

  • Cast your cheap, noncreature spell during your first main phase, leaving at least three mana left over among your lands
  • Go to combat, putting Mister Fantastic’s card draw trigger on the stack
  • Flash in Village Bell-Ringer in response, and put its triggered ability on the stack
  • Tap your mana dorks to activate Mister Fantastic’s final ability, copying Village Bell-Ringer’s trigger twice
  • Let one of Village Bell-Ringer triggers resolve, untapping all of your creatures
  • Repeat the previous two steps over and over, creating infinite untap triggers
  • Let one untap trigger resolve, then tap your mana dorks to activate Mister Fantastic’s final ability, copying Mister Fanastic’s card draw trigger that’s still on the stack
  • Repeat the previous step as many times as you wish to draw a ton of cards

Even though this combo line is a bit convoluted, as long as you have a win condition like Thassa’s Oracle to play during your second main phase, you’re golden. Alternatively, Mister Fantastic opens the door for infinite mana combos, where a single copy of Walking Ballista will get the job done. One of the simplest ways to produce infinite mana is to pair Mister Fantastic with Unstoppable Plan that untap all your noncreature permanents.

A Limitless Build-Around

As his name suggests, Mister Fantastic truly is an awesome Commander to craft a deck around. There are so many different directions to take things, making him a decent option at multiple EDH bracket levels. Presumably, the Fantastic Four precon could bring even more exciting new goodies on top of what we already have to work with.

Unfortunately, this set doesn’t release until June of 2026, so we have some waiting around to do in the meantime. Nonetheless, there’s a lot to look forward to, so make sure to keep any sweet Mister Fantastic interactions you come up with in your back pocket.
