December is typically a quieter month for Magic: The Gathering players. The final set of the year is already available at this point, so we rarely get much until the new year. That said, Wizards isn’t entirely done with 2025, as there are a few reveals left in store.
For starters, the story chapters for Lorwyn Eclipsed will be released in late December, ahead of previews beginning in January. While this is already plenty exciting, it turns out Wizards has even more in store for this month. Next week, we’re getting a preview for a major MTG set that bafflingly doesn’t release until June.
New Marvel Superheroes Cards Revealed Next Week

Thanks to the latest WeeklyMTG livestream, we now know a Marvel Superheroes-related announcement is happening next week. Details about the set will be revealed during next week’s Weekly MTG by Rasmussen, Rachel Weeks from the Command Zone, and an unannounced special guest. The best part of all of this is that Rasmussen confirmed today that some new Marvel Superheroes cards will be among the items revealed.
Considering that three MTG sets are on the docket to hit the scene before Marvel Superheroes does, this upcoming reveal is extremely bizarre. Heck, we haven’t even seen the First Look for Secrets of Strixhaven yet, and it releases two months before Marvel Superheroes does.
While it may seem odd, this is actually something we’ve seen from Marvel and MTG before. Announcements for MTG Spider Man were also done extremely ahead of schedule, with cards beginning to hit the scene back in March despite the set releasing in September. This might end up becoming something we see rather often as a result.
Sadly, outside of the Marvel Superheroes announcement, this WeeklyMTG also confirms that there won’t be much else going on until the new year. Besides the World Championships this weekend and some Lorwyn Eclipsed lore getting released later in the month, December will be pretty dry for MTG fans.
Still, getting some excitement is more than many may have expected for the month of December. Hopefully, we get some exciting cards to theorycraft around as we come into the new year.
