With the spoiler season for Marvel’s Spider-Man underway, you might expect the MTG markets to be going haywire. There are tons of new legendary creatures being spoiled, and each one is an iconic character worth building around. That said, while we’ve seen a lot of familiar faces from the Spider-Man franchise already, they’re not actually that exciting.
Between their lower power and not-so-flashy abilities, no new Spider-Man cards have really set the world alight just yet. As a result, it’s Edge of Eternities that still seems to be moving the markets. Considering this set is the last of 2025 to feature preconstructed Commander decks, this may remain the case for some time.
Proving this point, demand for land-based Commander staples has continued to climb in recent weeks. We’ve seen this with variants of Lotus Cobra, which have steadily climbed up, and the same is happening to Lumra, Bellow of the Woods.
Lumra, Bellow of the Woods
Originally released in Bloomburrow, Lumra, Bellow of the Woods has always been a popular card. Played in Standard, Pioneer, and even Modern, Lumra has been all over, but she’s no multiformat staple. At the moment, Lumra sees the most play in Pioneer, specifically within Scapeshift decks, which aren’t massively popular.
While Lumra, Bellow of the Woods might not be a competitive powerhouse, she is definitely a Commander favorite. She might not be the cheapest card in the world, but you definitely get your money’s worth. Between bringing back all the lands in your graveyard and becoming a massive body, Lumra is a pretty powerful Bear.
Notably, while six mana might seem like a lot, it’s actually a pretty good rate for what Lumra offers. In Commander, Splendid Reclamation is the going rate for mass land reanimation at four mana. Meanwhile, a body that scales with the number of lands you control, like Sandman, Shifting Scoundrel is at least three mana.
To get both of these effects on one card for cheaper than their combined costs is definitely a great deal. Due to this, it’s no wonder that Lumra, Bellow of the Woods is popular in Commander. While she’s most commonly found in the 99, she’s a solid cEDH Commander option herself, especially alongside new cards like Icetill Explorer.
Within the 99, Lumra is a fantastic utility piece for all manner of land-based decks. Unsurprisingly, this means she’s a great fit alongside Hearthhull, the Worldseed, and the World Shaper precon. Since this deck’s release, Lumra has appeared in over 2000 Hearthhull decks already.
The Spike
Like many of the price spikes that we’ve seen recently, Lumra, Bellow of the Woods hasn’t immediately exploded in price. Instead, Lumra’s climb has been slow and steady, happening over the course of months, rather than weeks. As you can see above, during the past three months, demand for Lumra hasn’t slowed down.
Over the past three months, over 900 non-foil near-mint copies of Lumra have been sold on TCGplayer. Somewhat unsurprisingly, since Lumra is a mythic from Bloomburrow, these steady sales have sapped the card’s supply. Currently, there are only 31 listings for Lumra, Bellow of the Woods which offer a total of 90 near-mint copies.
Currently, prices for these copies start at $29.97, including shipping. Remarkably, some copies have even been sold for as much as $39.94 recently; however, that’s likely due to TCGplayer Direct sales. While these high-priced sales are rare, prices have undoubtedly jumped, as back in June Lumra was only worth $12.
Unfortunately for anyone on a budget, there aren’t really any cheaper copies of Lumra floating around. There might be a couple of different variants available; however, each one is significantly more expensive and climbing in price. Currently, the cheapest alternative variant is the Borderless Field Notes treatment, which is selling for $40.
As if that wasn’t enough, the regular Borderless copies of Lumra are selling for a smidge more at $41 on average. This, however, is nothing compared to the price of the Raised Foil Lumra, which sells for $315 on average.
Strong Prospects
As with all things in MTG, the future of Lumra, Bellow of the Woods is uncertain. There’s always the possibility that Wizards will reprint Lumra at some point, or that current demand will move elsewhere. That said, while these are technically possibilities, neither one of them seems very likely.
For starters, with Masters sets going the way of the dodo, there aren’t many easy places to reprint Lumra meaningfully. A Secret Lair drop could technically happen; however, it’s unlikely that it would cause a price crash. Unlike Universes Beyond cards, there’s definitely no faux Reserved List expectation here, but I still wouldn’t expect a reprint anytime soon.
On top of this, Lumra, Bellow of the Woods isn’t a niche card by any means. Landfall and Land-based decks are some of the most popular strategies in Commander, and that’s been the case for some time. These archetypes get plenty of new support in Standard sets, and precons built around these themes aren’t uncommon.
Due to this, it’s unlikely that the demand for Lumra, Bellow of the Woods will die out completely. While it may decrease over time as new legendary creatures and precons get released, I wouldn’t expect a price crash. If anything, prices may continue to climb as time goes on due to the limited supply.
That said, while the future does look pretty bright for Lumra, there will be a breaking point. $30 is already a lot for an MTG card, even one that’s a Commander staple. There’s bound to be a point at which MTG players stop buying, which will cause prices to plateau or fall. Until we get there, however, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
