At the time of writing, Edge of Eternities has only been online for about a day. Despite this, thousands of limited games have already been played, hundreds of which have been recorded. Even though we’re still extremely early into Edge of Eternities Draft, some outliers have been discovered.
Using very early data from the highly renowned MTG Draft website 17Lands.com, we can already see some strong cards popping up that give an overlook of what the format looks like. There’s not enough data to give accurate reviews of any Edge of Eternities rares yet, but when it comes to uncommons, there are some clear cards that are stronger than the rest.
That said, because Edge of Eternities Draft has only been out for a day, these numbers are subject to massive change. Regardless, if you want to get a head start on the format, watch out for these cards.
Edge Rover
At the time of writing, the card with the highest win rate in Edge of Eternities is Edge Rover. The one-drop has a lot more going for it than it may seem. Edge of Eternities draft is an incredibly slow format, meaning that Edge Rover can usually get a decent chunk of damage in if it enters early. The card also synergizes with a ton of different themes within the set.
Notably, this creature produces Lander Tokens, which are very easy to underrate. Fixing in Edge of Eternities, outside of Lander Tokens, is basically nonexistent. If you want a decent shot at playing a three-colored deck, Lander Tokens are a necessity. A lot of different cards also care about artifacts, as well as sacrificing artifacts, meaning that Lander Tokens have a lot of synergy across archetypes.
Because Edge of Eternities is so slow, Landers get even better. Your late game matters a lot, and Edge Rover helps by not only getting you there but also by enabling a third color. Of course, the little guy is also an overstated 2/2, which is also great in more aggressive strategies. I wouldn’t go out of my way to splash for Edge Rover personally, but if you’re looking for a hint that Green is open, this might be the best one you’ll get. This card currently has a 62.4% win rate.
Dubious Delicacy
I wouldn’t have put it past Wizards of the Coast if they had made Dubious Delicacy a rare. The card probably won’t be very successful in constructed, but as far as Limited goes, Dubious Delicacy is a Swiss army knife that functions as synergistic removal. The amount of value it can create for three mana is absurd.
Giving a creature -3/-3 for three mana is a little underrate compared to other removal in the set, but it would still be a perfectly suitable piece of removal that would get picked relatively highly. In addition to that, this Food synergizes with the massive amount of artifact matters effects across archetypes, and can swing three points of life in either direction when it gets sacrificed.
In black, alone, three of the four archetypes that the color has care about artifacts, or sacrificing artifacts in some way, shape, or form. Golgari is the only one that doesn’t, and even in that archetype, Dubious Delicacy is a top pick. Honestly, I’m surprised this card only has a 61.8% win rate so far.
Dual-Sun Adepts
Dual-Sun Adepts seems like a card that likely performs better in specific archetypes within its color. Unfortunately, we’re too early to see exactly what those archetypes look like, but the card has a strong 61.1% winrate, regardless.
If you’re trying for a more aggressive approach in Edge of Eternities Limited, this card is a must. Not only can Dual-Sun Adepts deal a lot of damage on their own, but the card can scale your board as the game progresses. This isn’t as valuable in an average Draft set, but because Edge of Eternities is so slow, Dual-Sun Adepts’ activated ability gets a lot better.
This card pairs exceptionally well with Rayblade Trooper, which boasts an even more impressive 61.8% winrate, tying Dubious Delecacy. The Void effect of Trooper lets you buff your creatures on-curve, and makes them more difficult to remove properly. This plays very well into Dual-Sun Adepts.
It will be interesting to see where this card is performing best once the data behind it becomes a bit better. In our experience, while this card was always a solid pick and a menace when left alone, it didn’t seem to merit a win rate this high.
Codecracker Hound
For any drafters proficient at Tarkir Dragonstorm, this good boi’s strong early performance shouldn’t be that surprising. Sibsig Appraiser is almost identical to this card, and that was the best common in Dragonstorm by a very big margin. Codecracker Hound is even better than the Appraiser, especially in a format as slow as Edge of Eternities.
You almost always want to Warp this card first, because Codecracker Hound is a lot more about the card advantage than the body. It’s easy to draw into an absurd amount of gas with the amount of card selection that Codecracker Hound offers. In our experience, if you’re lucky enough to find multiple of these, they’ll generally find one another, allowing you to churn through your deck.
If you need bodies on board, Codecracker Hound can just come in as a creature that replaces itself, which is still incredible, as Sibsig Appraiser attests to. This card currently has a 61.6% win rate.
Mouth of the Storm
Mouth of the Storm’s strong performance should provide a very strong picture of the speed of Edge of Eternities Draft. If this card is winning a majority of the games it’s seen, it means that Mouth of the Storm is resolving a lot.
When the creature does resolve, winning games is trivial. Granting your opponent’s entire board -3 power gives you a free swing without needing to worry about the crack back. It can also help stabilize your situation if you’re far behind on board by basically giving the opponent a tempo equivalent of a Time Walk. Add on some strong stats, evasion, and protection, and you’ve got an uncommon bomb on your hands.
Best Edge of Eternities Commons
While there are a few uncommons between the best commons and the cards mentioned above, you’ll be seeing these cards a lot more, so if you are seeing them after your first few picks, make sure to take notice.
Both of these cards also want to play a longer game, and are very good at it. Cryogen Relic was called out as one of the best commons in Edge of Eternities very early on, and is quickly making waves in Pauper. Considering how many artifact synergies are in Edge of Eternities Draft, it should be rather obvious that this card is an incredible card advantage engine. The card has a 60.1% win rate.
Despite this, another common actually has an even higher win rate. We already stated how important Lander Tokens are in Edge of Eternities Limited, and Galactic Wayfarer’s 60.7% win rate just confirms it yet again. An on-rate three-drop that enables various synergies and unlocks a third color is very strong in such a slow format.
While the win rates of these cards will change as the data pool grows bigger, this paints a decent picture of what Magic’s best Drafters are doing: you want to go long. Make sure you’ve got enough game to go late, and pick Lander Tokens highly.
