$22,000 Bounty offered for Final Fantasy's Rarest MTG Card

Share

It’s Final Fantasy prerelease weekend! Today, many MTG players will be sitting down for their first games of Sealed with the biggest Magic release of 2025. This also means that Final Fantasy Commander precons and Collector Boosters will be available for purchase. Similar to Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth, Final Fantasy’s Collector Boosters are shot at a literal Golden Ticket.

Only one serialized card is available in the new Final Fantasy crossover. While it’s not as exciting as the one-of-one One Ring, the 77 Golden Chocobos will still offer enticing enough price tags to attract a horde of admirers. So far, one bounty has already been issued for the Golden Chocobo, turning the card into a down payment for a house.

Golden Chocobo Bounty

Traveling Chocobo MTG Serialized Golden Version

On June 5th, 2025, Canadian LGS Taps Games posted a $30,000 CAD bounty for Golden Chocobo on Facebook. For those who aren’t familiar with the Monopoly money found over the border, that’s about $22,000 USD.

This doesn’t shake a stick at the final selling price of the one-of-one Ring, but considering that there are 77 of these in existence, many players may be shocked by how high the bounty for a Golden Chocobo is. Notably, there are claims that other $25,000 USD bounties have been issued for Golden Chocobos, but after scouring the internet, we failed to find any.

As usual, there’s also a potential for additional premiums if you find a number with additional meaning. Numbers 1, 7, 77, and 69 will likely have a surprising premium, going for far more than the bounty issued by Taps games.

According to some of the other very limited information regarding pull rates for these Chocobos, however, $22,000 might be a rip-off for a Golden Chocobo. They may actually be worth far more than that.

Is Chasing Golden Chocobo A Good Idea?

Obviously, the high of hitting a Golden Chocobo is absolutely incredible, but you’ll likely find it very difficult to open cards worth what Final Fantasy Collector Booster Boxes are going for. These are currently selling for an obscene $740 USD a box and $70 USD per pack. That’s almost double the officially listed $37 Collector Booster pack MSRP from Wizards. This MSRP suggests that hitting a pack worth the $70 price tag will be obscenely difficult.

Early information regarding pack openings on X paints an even more alarming picture. X user Human_Monk opened 400 Collector Booster Boxes before seeing their first premium Chocobo, and it wasn’t even a serialized one. They instead got the extremely rare Raised Foil Black Chocobo, exclusively printed in the Japanese language, but available in Collector Booster packs in any language. This is, reportedly, the only rare Chocobo that appeared in the 400 Collector Booster boxes. Some quick math suggests that Human_Monk spent $250,000 for one rare Chocobo.

For reference, extremely rare printings of a Yellow, Green, Red, and Black Chocobo exist in addition to the serialized chase cards. All of the rare Chocobos have been confirmed to have less than a 1% pull rate in Collector Boosters, but the exact percentage is unknown. Early eBay auctions for these cards have them at over $1000 USD.

All of this is to say that opening Final Fantasy Collector Boosters is a money pit, at least in the short term. We’ve seen exclusive Collector Booster treatments for Lord of the Rings surge in price on the secondary market, with Special Edition Collector Boosters from that set being worth $2000 a box. Even the original Collector Booster Box lineup from that set is nearing $1000.

There’s no guarantee, however, that Final Fantasy will follow the same trajectory. For now, many of the cards you find in your Collector Booster packs are unlikely to pay for the pack itself.

Number 11 Already Found

Prereleases haven’t even started for the majority of North American MTG players, and Golden Chocobos are already beginning to appear on the internet. Numbers 11 and 41 have been found so far. For reference, number 41 currently has an asking price of $200,000. Who knows how many more have entered the hands of players?

X user Xopher is the owner of beautiful number 11, and inquiries for sales are actively being made. It may only be a matter of time before we know the actual market value of a Golden Chocobo, and I wouldn’t be surprised if early bounties for it pale in comparison to the actual sale number.
