Spring 2025 Planeswalker Series Promos Include $20 MTG Icon

Serious value coming to Japanese stores!

It doesn’t take a genius to see that Wizards of the Coast is pushing pretty hard to establish Magic: The Gathering in the Japanese market right now. Last week alone saw a full-on music video released to promote a Japanese event. This was quickly followed up with an April Fools joke teasing an actual MTG anime. This week, the Spring 2025 Planeswalker Series event begins at Japanese WPN stores, bringing with it some very tasty promos.

These promos are available exclusively in Japanese and feature new art by notable Japanese artists. They’re also, unlike many promos Wizards chooses for events like these, very playable cards in their own right. These are cards that will be sought after both for their aesthetic and gameplay value. If you don’t have access to a Japanese store, be prepared to pay a hefty premium for this pair.

Nissa, Resurgent Animist

Spring 2025 Planeswalker Series Promos Nissa Resurgent Animist
  • Mana Value: 2G
  • Type: Legendary Creature – Elf Scout
  • Stats: 3/3
  • Card Text: Landfall — Whenever a land you control enters, add one mana of any color. Then if this is the second time this ability has resolved this turn, reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal an Elf or Elemental card. Put that card into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

The first and most exciting of the Spring 2025 Planeswalker Series promos is Nissa, Resurgent Animist. This is a relatively recent card, debuting in March of the Machine: The Aftermath back in 2023. This was a pretty widely panned set on launch, and as a result, not a huge amount was opened. Today, this has led to many of the playable cards in the set spiking in value, Nissa chief among them.

Desparked Nissa sees scattered play in Pioneer and Modern but does the bulk of her work in Commander. Whether you’re playing Elves, Elementals, or Landfall, she’s a solid addition. For that reason, a regular copy of the card will cost you around $20 at the time of writing. Special variants, like the Retro Frame and Extended Art versions, go for up to $25.

According to the official event page for the Spring 2025 Planeswalker Series, Nissa is a fairly tricky promo to get. You need to either win the rock-paper-scissors tournament at one of the casual events or come in first or second place at a competitive event. Multiply this scarcity by the region-locked nature of the events themselves, and there likely won’t be many copies available, thus jacking up the value here.

Past Planeswalker Series promos bear this logic out. Jace Reawakened, a $2 card normally, is around $60 in its Planeswalker Series variant. Kaya, Spirits’ Justice gets an even bigger multiplier, going from around $0.40 at base to $28 for the promo. If this pattern continues, this promo version of Nissa could easily be worth over $100. Possibly even over $200, depending on demand.

Get Lost

Spring 2025 Planeswalker Series Promos Get Lost
  • Mana Value: 1W
  • Type: Instant
  • Card Text: Destroy target creature, enchantment, or planeswalker. Its controller creates two Map tokens. (They’re artifacts with “1, Tap, Sacrifice this token: Target creature you control explores. Activate only as a sorcery.”)

The second of the Spring 2025 Planeswalker Series promos is Get Lost. This is another recent banger, arriving not long after Nissa in The Lost Caverns of Ixalan. Since then, the card has been one of the go-to white removal spells in multiple formats. Standard, Pioneer, and even Modern have found homes for it, owing to its incredible flexibility and efficiency. Giving your opponent Maps can be risky, but most of the time, the tempo advantage you gain from a spell like this more than balances that out.

Thanks to this widespread use, Get Lost is sitting at around $4.30 right now. That’s more than respectable for a two-year-old rare. It sees plenty of play in Commander, too, so that price is unlikely to crater when Caverns rotates out of Standard next year. Before we speculate on possible prices for this promo version, however, it’s worth noting how distribution differs between this and Nissa.

Unlike everyone’s favorite Animist, Get Lost is a participation promo for the Spring 2025 Planeswalker Series events. This means you’ll get a copy just for showing up, which makes it considerably less rare than Nissa. The official site does note that there will be a limit of 16 of these given out per event, but that’s still a lot of supply over time.

Past participation promos like Aven Interrupter and Lightning Helix command pretty sizable premiums over their regular versions, sitting at $16 and $15, respectively. Given that the former is about $3 normally and the latter is essentially bulk, that’s good going. We can probably expect a similar price tag for Get Lost once it hits the market. I could even see it going as high as $20, given the popularity of the card at present.
