Fan-Favorite Marvel Rivals Character Appears on MTG Bonus Card

Share

It’s only been a few days since MTG Deadpool’s Secret Lair surprisingly went for sale, and players are already beginning to receive their product. That means some new, themed Bonus Cards have been discovered, which are not what you would expect.

Of course, Deadpool’s usual antics are on display for some of your Bonus Card selections, but others introduce a completely unexpected character to MTG. Marvel Rivals’ local menace Jeff, the Shark has appeared in MTG.

Harmless Offering

Jeff the Land Shark appears as a Harmless Offering being gifted to the reader from another character’s first appearance on an MTG card: Gwenpool. Known for his adorable appearance in Marvel Rivals, Jeff quickly gained an infamous reputation thanks to his ultimate ability that allows him to swallow the enemy team and jump off the map with them.

Harmless Offering is a rather funny card that isn’t worth a whole bunch. Recently reprinted in MTG Foundations, this combines well with the mythic rare Demonic Pact. Reap the benefits of the first three modes and gift the pact to an opponent before losing the game.

Harmless Offering does have some niche interactions with Deadpool, Trading Card. If you swap texts with your own creatures, you can gift the new card that has received Deadpool’s original text to an opponent. The Master, Multiplied, a card that saw a massive spike recently, is an ideal target that you may own for swapping texts.

Even if the value of this reprint is less than a dollar, many MTG players are going to love this Harmless Offering. The bite marks all over the card’s borders are a less-than subtle detail that really brings the card together.

Interestingly enough, this is not the only Bonus Card you can receive from the MTG X Marvel’s Deadpool Secret Lair, but if you want legal playing cards, this is the best card that has been discovered so far.

Blacker Lotus

Deadpool’s improving’ Black Lotus is completely on-brand for this fourth wall-breaking character. While this is technically the most powerful mana rock in all of Magic: The Gathering, the card is also silver-bordered in its original printing. This means that Blacker Lotus is not legal in any MTG format.

Originating from Unglued, this is the first reprint Blacker Lotus has ever seen. Considering that the card cannot be played in any tournament settings, this isn’t exactly shocking. Despite the card’s legality issues, it still demands a $17 price tag, which is rather impressive for a joke.

At the time of writing, it is believed that Blacker Lotus is the rarer chase Bonus Card for the MTG X Marvel’s Deadpool Secret Lair. Considering that this isn’t exactly a playable card, this isn’t a bad thing. The rarity should allow the card to have a decent secondary market value, so those who aren’t interested in having this as a collectible can allow someone else to enjoy Deadpool’s new and improved masterpiece.

Personally, I would be tempted to use this Blacker Lotus as a token for a Garth, One-Eye EDH deck. That card can legally create copies of Black Lotus, and for many MTG players, this Blacker Lotus is probably the closest thing you can get to an ‘official’ token without spending thousands of dollars on something closer.

The flavor for Blacker Lotus is phenomenal, but many players have stated that they would rather have the Harmless Offering over this card since they can actually play it.

Esika’s Chariot

Source: MTG Reddit

This last one is not a MTG X Marvel’s Deadpool Bonus Card. This Esika’s Chariot instead appeared in the Twisted Toons Secret Lair with another Bonus Card. That Bonus card was a black and white version of the Young Wolf that appears in the Twisted Toons Secret Lair. This matches the trend that players already associated with that particular drop.

Many players suspect that this particular Bonus Card was an accident. This instead looks like a card that is supposed to appear in a future Secret Lair. Notably, Heikala, the artist for this card, was supposed to get their own Secret Lair.

There’s a bunch of weird trends with this particular Chariot. Among the most bizarre is that this card is dated 2024 but has not yet appeared in a Secret Lair. Players are largely unsure about what happened with this particular Secret Lair, but it seems to have been a mistake. Don’t expect to find Esika’s Chariot as a Bonus Card.

Deadpool Secret Lair is a Home Run

From start to end, The MTG X Marvel’s Deadpool Secret Lair was absolutely stellar. Not only are the reprints valuable, but Deadpool looks incredibly powerful. To top things off, the flavor of this particular Secret Lair is brilliant.

Players likely didn’t expect Gwenpool and Jeff, the Shark to make an honorary appearance in this Secret Lair. This Harmless Offering will likely host quite a premium over other variants.
