MTG Foundations Jumpstart cards may not be Standard legal, but the good news is that there are a bunch of sweet Commander legends to build around. Cards like Rev, Tithe Extractor and Shroofus Sproutsire have quickly become quite popular options.
These unique creatures have also helped cause some underappreciated EDH cards to rise in price. For instance, Shroofus Sproutsire has encouraged players to craft Saproling decks, giving cards that produce Saprolings more time to shine. Brightcap Badger, for instance, as seen a major spice spike over the past few weeks.
Brightcap Badger
The card in question is none other than Brightcap Badger. Brightcap Badger is a powerful card for any deck that has a high quantity of Saprolings and Fungus creatures. Typically, you’ll want to first spend three mana making two Saprolings with the Adventure portion of the card. From there, when you play Brightcap Badger, you immediately have two 1/1s that tap for mana.
Obviously, Brightcap Badger can get really out of hand if you already have a bunch of Saprolings and Fungi on the battlefield. Creatures like Mycoloth do a great job fueling Brightcap Badger. Perhaps no card is better equipped to maximize the Bloomburrow Commander card than the new Shroofus Sproutsire.
As long as you can clear a path for your Saprolings to connect in combat, your board will start to grow exponentially. That gives you access to a boatload of mana to work with thanks to Brightcap Badger, which you can spend on any huge haymaker you like.
The Spike
Prior to the printing of Shroofus Sproutsire, Brightcap Badger was nothing more than a bulk rare. Back on the 4th of November, this card sold for little more than 40 cents most of the time.
Soon after the set’s release, Shroofus Sproutsire quickly emerged as one of the most popular Commanders in Foundations Jumpstart. As Prid3MTG points out, players then started flocking to pick up Brightcap Badger, which only has one printing.
With limited supply and a big increase in demand, it makes sense as to why Brightcap Badger has been steadily rising over the last two weeks. Its current price tag is $3.69, and there have been a large number of sales over the past few days that hover near that number.
For reference, this is an 823% price spike since November 4th. The card’s rise in price does seem to be tapering off a bit. Nonetheless, if you decided to spec on Brightcap Badger early on, you’ve certainly been rewarded.
